Full Job Description
Job Purpose

Electrical and Project Engineer with capabilities to lead, implement, and communicate an operational plan for completing a project, monitor progress and performance against the project plan; resolve operational problems, minimize delays, identify, develop and gather necessary resources to complete the project. Lead and direct electrical engineering activities such as evaluation and improvement of electrical systems within the HDMA Facilities team scope. Leading and supporting electrical equipment installation, maintenance, repairs, and replacements. Types of equipment involved are electrical panels, meters and software, busways, breakers, transformers, and substation equipment. Develop work scope with contractors to ensure the design and construction of new electrical systems meet specifications, code and performance expectations. Estimate costs, resources and time required to complete. Ensures controls architecture consistency between sites. Analyse technology trends. Involvement in business planning process and long-term investment planning.

Key Accountabilities

  • Apply Electrical and Facilities engineering expertise in HDMA business planning operations. Facilitate the sharing of knowledge and best practice to impact decisions at Site / Unit / Dept level. Support FAC Operations with mechanical/electrical equipment design and specification. Apply analytical and trouble shooting skills to minimize mean time to recovery. Manage short circuit analysis and arc flash ratings database.
  • Support operation of Facilities electrical systems including but not limited to electrical panels, busways, transformers, breakers, and lighting and controls. Manage and maintain documentation for the site electrical systems. Communicate critical updates to site system operators. Identify deficiencies to develop scope of design and construction for renovation or upgrade of existing industrial systems. Responsible for critical thinking, troubleshooting, data collection, experimental procedures, and data analysis techniques to solve problems and recommend facilities improvements.
  • Train FAC Associates on enhancements to operations related to controls and mechanical/electrical systems. Provide support on an as-needed basis. Ensure reference documentation is available and easily accessed.
  • Work with departments outside of facilities on planned and unplanned projects requiring electrical equipment modification to help improve production process, equipment efficiency, safety, reliability, and delivery. Assure that building electrical systems meet capacity and reliability requirements of the customer.
  • Manage metering instrumentation and utilities monitoring system hardware (device specification, installation, programming, integration, and lifecycle management) and software (server/database management, software, licensing, IT liaison, and maintenance), as well as support contract management for all sites. Additionally, act as site subject matter expert for all data analysis and aggregation supporting quantitative analysis of environmental initiatives and annual site department budgeting.
  • Implement new engineering strategies and technologies to replace facilities equipment and systems at their end of life (EOL). Manage testing, planning, and maintenance of 40-100 MVA electrical distribution system from 138 kV to 120 V.
  • Lead and/or support in the bidding, evaluation, and selection process of contractors for the design and construction phase of a project. Review, verify and approve engineering/design drawings at the various design completion levels. Determine and prioritize project tasks and develop project schedule and timelines in order to achieve project's final goals on time and within budget. Generate projects' progress tracking and control documents, maintain an organized project file, present and update facility and plant management on project progress and results.


Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and/or engineering experience
  • 2- 6 years of relevant working experience in Electrical Engineering.

  • Demonstrated ability to: effectively communicate ideas to gain consensus from individuals or teams; Demonstrate technical proficiency, with expertise on some topics, within the electrical engineering field, balance multiple projects simultaneously; comprehend technical drawings and specifications; plan and execute special projects and reporting; work well in a collaborative environment.
