ABOUT THE ROLE

Reports to: President

Exergy is seeking a Fabricator Facility Manager in Calgary, Alberta with 15+ years of practical experience in fabrication, assembly, welding, planning, scheduling, QA/QC of fabrication and assembly. The ideal candidate will bring a broad understanding of fabrication knowledge, planning and QA/QC to the team with a desire to execute in an agile project environment. As a secondary focus this role will also serve as our Safety Lead within the organization with a primary focus on our fabrication and assembly facilities. This is a full-time employment opportunity, with the option for a contractor-based position if preferred.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations & Manufacturing
  • Oversee Fabrication Operations: Coordinate all stages of the fabrication process, from initial planning to final assembly or installation. This includes: coordinating activities for the team, setting up work areas; operating machinery and ensuring efficient production flow.
  • Interpret Technical Documents: Read, interpret, and build from blueprints, construction drawings, sketches, or specifications to guide fabrication activities and ensure accuracy.
  • Scheduling and Planning: Early engagement in design projects that will move to production. Develop production plans, schedules, and workflows; coordinate resource allocation, including materials and equipment, to meet deadlines and project requirements.
  • Inventory and Procurement Management: Support the project procurement coordinator to track inventory levels, procure necessary materials, and optimize supply chain processes to avoid shortages and control costs for shop materials and supplies.
  • Coordination and Communication: Liaise with project manager, project team, fabricators and contractors; provide technical expertise, prepare quotes or estimates, and resolve operational issues.
  • Resource Allocation: Ensure effective use of resources with accountability to maintain high team utilization and support project management to steward budget & schedule compliance.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, implement lean manufacturing principles, and support efficiency enhancements in fabrication methods.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Prepare reports on production progress, dashboards, and key metrics; facilitate training and maintain records for compliance and performance tracking.
  • Hands-On Support: Perform fabrication tasks as needed, including welding, machining, or assembly, to support team efforts and meet urgent deadlines.

Health and Safety Leadership
  • Safety Culture: Leading daily or weekly safety briefings (toolbox meetings), enforcing PPE requirements, and ensuring emergency response is well planned and put in Place. Work in a safe manner always and report all health and safety incidents and concerns in Workhub.
  • Hazard Identification and Mitigation: Identifying potential project hazards on the fabrication floor, performing routine safety inspections, and conducting incident or near-miss investigation.
  • Quality Control and Compliance: Implement and monitor quality assurance procedures, conduct inspections, and ensure all work complies with safety regulations, industry standards, and customer specifications.
  • Asset Reliability: Overseeing the preventative maintenance program of all facility infrastructure, equipment, tools, and machinery.

Team Leadership:
  • Workforce Planning: Lead and supervise a multi-disciplined team of fabricators, assign tasks, provide training, and monitor performance to maintain quality, productivity, and safety standards. Includes mechanicals, electrical, I&C, civil/structural, labourers, etc.
  • Contractor Management: Managing subcontractors coming in, providing training as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum 15+ years' experience in construction, fabrication and/or maintenance operations.
  • Certifications or training in mechanical, instrumentation, or electrical fabrication/assembly.
  • Site construction/operations experience.
  • Ability to take initiative and drive actions to completion.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive client and project team relationships.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced work environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Track record of strong health and safety performance while leading teams.
