Our office in Niagara Falls, ON, is looking for a Fabrication Estimator to join our team.

Summary of the Role

Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the Fabrication Estimator is responsible for pricing and pre-construction phases of fabrication projects. This role will provide and coordinate pricing with various subcontractors and material suppliers. The Fabrication Estimator will also be responsible for analyzing the various stages of fabrication to provide a logical sequence of activities in the most cost-effective manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review client bid packages to determine resources required to complete request for quotations.
  • Coordinate estimates to ensure tender scope is being fully accounted for in the most cost-efficient manner.
  • Prepare detailed bid packages/scopes of work for applicable subcontractors and be the SPOC for all sub-contracted special processes in support of the overall fabrication.
  • Assemble pricing while evaluating proposals from multiple sources.
  • Assess cost of rentals, tools, equipment, and non-productive labor.
  • Participate in tender proposal requirements, including:
    • Review of terms and conditions
    • Bonding and insurance requirements
    • Tender breakdown requirements
    • Organization charts and resumes
    • Company experience
    • Craft rates and mark-ups for additional work.
    • Preliminary schedules
    • Execution plans
  • Upon completion of an estimate, prior to submitting to the customer, review with the Estimating Manager providing input into the following items as a minimum:
    • Labour efficiency and productivity related issues
    • Indirect labour requirements
    • Construction equipment requirements
    • Overhead and profit levels
  • Prepare material takeoff.
  • Participate in post tender activities, such as:
    • Coordination of sales effort and follow up
    • Tender review meeting
    • Tender negotiations
    • Project initiation activities
    • Project support for awarded contracts.
  • Attend kick-off meetings as required.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge and awareness of current market conditions affecting the cost of fabrication.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable ASME codes, TSSA requirements, piping codes, and contract laws and obligations, material specifications, scheduling and factors affecting the supply of labour, materials and modern fabrication methods.
