Job Summary

The Fabrication Business Development Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining customer relationships while driving profitable sales growth for fabrication products and services. This role serves as the primary point of contact for existing and prospective customers, identifying opportunities, understanding customer requirements, and delivering value-added solutions that align with fabrication capabilities.

The representative actively pursues new business opportunities within assigned territories, conducts customer visits, prepares quotations, negotiates pricing, and collaborates closely with inside sales, operations and customer service teams to ensure customer expectations are met. Success in this role requires a strong understanding of metal fabrication processes, manufacturing operations, project management principles, and market conditions.

In addition to customer-facing responsibilities, the Fabrication Outside Sales Representative is expected to support the Operations team in developing and maintaining a robust network of vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, and industry contacts that contribute to business growth and enhance the company's fabrication capabilities. This includes identifying and qualifying strategic partners, sourcing new fabrication and processing resources, monitoring market trends, and leveraging industry relationships to improve responsiveness, capacity, competitiveness, and value-added solutions for customers. The representative will collaborate with Operations and Leadership to align vendor development efforts with the company's growth strategy and operational objectives.
Job Description

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans to achieve revenue, profitability, and market growth objectives.
  • Identify, qualify, and secure new fabrication business opportunities within targeted markets and territories.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with existing customers to increase customer retention, satisfaction, and sales volume.
  • Conduct joint sales calls with existing TK Flat Roll sales representatives to identify fabrication opportunities within the current customer base, provide fabrication sales training and support, and drive the conversion of contract sales into higher-margin, value-added fabrication work.
  • Conduct customer visits, plant tours, and project reviews to understand requirements and promote fabrication capabilities.
  • Prepare and present quotations, proposals, and value-added solutions that meet customer specifications and business objectives.
  • Collaborate with inside sales and operations teams to ensure successful project execution and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor project status, communicate updates to customers, and proactively resolve issues that may impact delivery, quality, or schedule.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts while maintaining targeted profit margins.
  • Develop, maintain, and expand a network of vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, and industry contacts to support fabrication growth and enhance service offerings.
  • Identify and qualify strategic vendor partners that expand capacity, capabilities, geographic reach, and competitive advantage.
  • Leverage vendor and industry relationships to source fabrication services and solutions that support customer needs and business growth.
  • Gather and communicate market intelligence regarding industry trends, competitive activity, customer requirements, and emerging opportunities.
  • Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, customer functions, and networking opportunities to strengthen brand presence and generate leads.
  • Maintain accurate sales forecasts, customer activity records, opportunity pipelines, and account plans.
  • Achieve established sales, margin, customer acquisition, and business development performance metrics.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, professionalism, and exceptional customer service in all customer and vendor interactions.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field; equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 7 years of outside sales, business development, account management, or related experience in metal fabrication, steel processing, industrial manufacturing, or a related industry.
  • Demonstrated success in developing new business and growing customer relationships within a competitive market.
  • Working knowledge of metal fabrication processes, including stamping, plate fabrication, welding, cutting, machining, forming, assembly, and finishing operations.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Strong understanding of estimating, quoting, contract negotiation, and project management principles.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain a network of vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, fabricators, and industry contacts to support business growth.
  • Experience identifying and qualifying third-party fabrication resources and strategic partners to expand service offerings and operational capacity.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a customer-focused mindset.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and sales reporting tools.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly within assigned territories and customer locations.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with operations, engineering, estimating, purchasing, and leadership teams.
