Expert Systems Architect - GCPITnova is seeking an Expert Systems Architect to support the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) in the design, implementation, management, and support of solutions for a new Unemployment Insurance System. The Architect will work closely with clients, business stakeholders, development teams, operations, and security teams to understand requirements and develop secure, scalable, reliable, and cost-effective cloud solutions using Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Responsibilities - Solution Architecture: Design and architect scalable, reliable, secure, and cost-effective GCP solutions based on client and business requirements. Select appropriate GCP services and develop high-level and detailed designs covering network topology, data flow, security, integrations, and disaster recovery.
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance to development and operations teams, mentor engineers, and collaborate with business analysts, project managers, security teams, and other stakeholders to translate requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Cloud Implementation: Oversee implementation and deployment of GCP solutions, including virtual machines, containers, databases, networking, and storage. Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or similar tools and implement CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments.
- Security & Compliance: Design and implement GCP security controls, including IAM, network security, encryption, logging, and threat detection. Ensure solutions meet applicable federal, industry, and organizational security and compliance requirements, including IRS Publication 1075, GDPR, HIPAA, and PCI DSS, as applicable.
- Performance & Cost Optimization: Monitor cloud infrastructure and application performance, identify optimization opportunities, and develop strategies for resource utilization, rightsizing, cost allocation, and overall GCP cost management.
- Troubleshooting & Support: Diagnose and resolve complex GCP, infrastructure, application, and integration issues. Provide ongoing operational support and participate in critical incident response and on-call activities, as required.
- Documentation: Create and maintain technical architecture, design, configuration, operational, security, and disaster recovery documentation.
Required Qualifications - Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.
- Equivalent education, training, and professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree, where permitted by contract requirements.
- 7+ years of professional experience in systems architecture, cloud architecture, infrastructure engineering, or a related field.
- Extensive experience designing, implementing, and supporting complex enterprise technology solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and guidance to large teams and/or organizations.
- Strong understanding of cloud architecture principles, including scalability, reliability, security, performance, availability, and cost optimization.
- Experience translating business and technical requirements into effective architectural solutions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and technical documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications - 7+ years of experience designing, architecting, implementing, and supporting scalable, reliable, secure, and cost-effective solutions on GCP, including Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Cloud Functions, networking, databases, and containers.
- 7+ years of experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), including Terraform or Google Cloud Deployment Manager, and CI/CD implementation.
- 7+ years of experience designing and implementing GCP security and compliance solutions, including IAM, network security, encryption, threat detection, vulnerability assessments, and security reviews; experience with IRS Publication 1075, GDPR, HIPAA, PCI DSS, or similar standards is preferred.
- 7+ years of experience with cloud performance monitoring, optimization, availability, reliability, and cost management, including resource rightsizing and cost allocation.
- 5+ years of experience providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers, and collaborating with technical and business stakeholders.
- 7+ years of experience troubleshooting complex GCP and cloud application issues and providing ongoing operational support and critical incident response.
- 5+ years of experience developing and maintaining technical architecture and design documentation.
- Experience supporting federal government, Department of Labor, or other mission-critical and highly regulated environments is preferred.
- Relevant Google Cloud certifications, such as Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect, are preferred.
