Join Blue Cross Life as an Expert Group Underwriter, where you'll provide strategic underwriting expertise on complex group benefit plans across Canada. Working closely with regional Blue Cross plans, you'll leverage strong analytical and technical skills to influence pricing, financial arrangements, and underwriting solutions that support profitable growth and exceptional client outcomes.
As a trusted subject matter expert, you'll collaborate with underwriting, actuarial, finance, data management, and administration teams, providing guidance on complex underwriting matters and supporting key business initiatives across the Blue Cross network. This role offers the opportunity to apply deep technical expertise, influence business decisions, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of our group insurance business.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Provide expert underwriting guidance and oversight on complex group benefit plans across the Blue Cross network.
- Review and advise on new business opportunities, renewals, pricing strategies, financial agreements, and ASO arrangements.
- Analyze claims experience, trends, and financial data to develop sound underwriting recommendations and pricing solutions.
- Partner with regional Blue Cross plans and reinsurers to navigate unique and non-standard underwriting situations.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on underwriting, product, and client-related matters that fall outside standard guidelines.
- Share expertise with underwriting teams across Canada and contribute to best practices, process improvements, and strategic initiatives.
What You'll Bring
- 10+ years of experience in group insurance underwriting, pricing, actuarial analysis, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of group benefits, underwriting principles, pricing methodologies, funding arrangements, and financial agreements.
- Advanced analytical and technical abilities, with the capacity to interpret data, identify trends, evaluate risk, and develop practical recommendations.
- Expert-level Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to work with large datasets, perform complex financial and experience analyses, and develop efficient models and reporting tools.
- Strong business acumen and the ability to balance client needs, risk considerations, and profitability objectives.
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across multiple teams and stakeholders.
- A university degree in a quantitative discipline such as Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Operations Research, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- English proficiency is required to perform the duties of the role, which include daily collaboration with teams and partners outside Québec who operate primarily in English. Bilingualism (ENG/FR) is considered an asset.
Pay Range

The Base Pay range may vary depending on the successful candidate or other relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience and education/training. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Blue Cross Life employees may participate in various performance-based incentive programs. Payments under these programs are discretionary and subject to both individual and organizational results.
