Job SummaryAs an Experienced Mechanical Engineer at BPMI, you will perform moderately complex critical technical functions to execute BPMI's mission in areas including but not limited to performing engineering evaluations and analyses and making engineering decisions for all aspects of assigned tasks. Work may include materials evaluations, design and manufacturability reviews; review of specifications, operations support, and evaluation of procedures and systems for quality control. This position requires knowledge and application of engineering techniques, principles and practices employed in the Repair Part Engineering team.
The Repair Part Engineering (RPE) team within Fleet Support is seeking an Engineer to manage and process technical requests related to repair parts. This role involves evaluating supplier documentation, addressing deficiencies, coordinating reviews, and ensuring accurate and timely resolution of requests. The RPE team plays a critical role in maintaining fleet readiness and supply chain efficiency by liaising with internal teams and external stakeholders. This role combines technical evaluation aspects of the Cognizant Engineer (CE) component owner role and repair part logistics knowledge supporting Navy supply operations. The RPE team will gain familiarity with common Program material, manufacturing, and quality assurance requirements, as well as repair part lifecycle management strategy. This position will typically not require you to address urgent field issues during off hours.
Essential Duties:- Manage the receipt, prioritization, and team assignment of Logistics Assistance Requests (LAR) related to Product Quality Deficiency Reports (PQDRs), Engineering Referral System Reports (ERSRs) and Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) technical requests.
- Gather and analyze technical and logistics data to support dispositions.
- Evaluate NAVSUP supplier and shipyard documentation to address reported deficiencies and technical requests.
- Interpret drawings, specifications, and manufacturing or test procedures to verify supplier/part compliance with contract and design requirements.
- Identify response actions to address material deficiencies, stock inspections, and repair recommendations of deficient parts for future use.
- Evaluate individual repair part ordering data changes, repair part substitutions, technical clarifications, and requests for outfitting or configuration updates.
- Ensure proper documentation and resolution of LARs in alignment with operating instructions, component technical specifications, and organizational policies.
- Coordinate technical reviews and concurrence requests with applicable stakeholders, ensuring timely feedback.
- Routine liaising with internal teams and external stakeholders such as NAVSUP, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), and other Cognizant Design Activities (CDAs).
- Collaborate with component owners to resolve discrepancies between technical evaluations and component requirements documents.
- Facilitate tracking of follow-up actions and technical resolutions using approved systems (e.g., ECS, CPR tasks).
- Establish, track, and influence progress against schedule and performance goals and provide periodic status updates to management, and internal and external stakeholders.
- Team with other engineers performing related phases of the technical work to ensure integration of activities and plans. Mentor and train lower-level employees.
- May prepare revisions to manuals, reports, or procedures in accordance with NR Program quality standards.
- May prepare letters to the Government providing technical information, recommending approval of technical actions, or obtaining approval of funding.
- The essential duties identified are representative but are not intended to be an exhaustive or inclusive list of all the responsibilities of the position.

- Career advancement and professional development programs.
Minimum Job Requirements:- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- A minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience. Advanced degrees (e.g., Master's, Ph. D.) may be considered as a partial substitute for required experience, depending on the relevance to the position, but may not fulfill the entire experience requirement.
