Job Description
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Executive Director provides visionary leadership, strategic direction, and executive oversight for the branch. This role is primarily focused outward, tasked with driving community impact, cultivating philanthropic support, developing a robust advisory board, and forming high-level strategic partnerships. In partnership with the Associate Executive Director, the Executive Director ensures the overall financial sustainability, growth, and mission delivery of the YMCA within the region.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in human services, nonprofit management, education, recreation, or a related field.
- Minimum of eight years of progressively responsible YMCA or nonprofit leadership experience, including program supervision and staff management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead others, manage operations, and support strategic initiatives.
- Strong skills in budget development and fiscal management.
- Experience developing and maintaining community partnerships.
- Knowledge of YMCA programs and commitment to the Y's mission, values, and diversity, equity & inclusion practices.
- YMCA Organizational Leader certification is preferred or must be obtained within 24 months.
CPR and First Aid certifications may be required.
Essential Functions
Strategic Leadership & Board Governance Mission & Vision: Directs the long-range strategic planning and annual operating goals for the branch in alignment with Association-wide priorities.
Board Development: Leads the recruitment, onboarding, and engagement of a highly influential Branch Advisory Board and its committees; leverages board members to expand the Y's local influence.
Organizational Alignment: Serves as a vital member of the Association's executive leadership team, ensuring branch initiatives align with the YMCA's broader institutional goals.
Philanthropy & Financial Development Major Gifts & Endowments: Identifies, cultivates, and stewards relationships with individual donors, corporations, and foundations to secure major gifts, grants, and planned giving.
Campaign Leadership: Oversees the strategy and execution of the branch's Annual Campaign and capital campaigns, coaching staff and board volunteers on fundraising best practices.
Storytelling & Impact: Partners with Association marketing teams to widely communicate "Y stories" and measurable data that demonstrate the branch's community impact to stakeholders and donors.
Community Partnerships & Public Relations Strategic Alliances: Builds and maintains high-level collaborative relationships with civic leaders, school districts, healthcare networks, corporate executives, and government entities.
Brand Advocacy: Serves as the primary spokesperson and a highly visible ambassador for the YMCA, maintaining a prominent profile in local civic clubs, chambers of commerce, and community coalitions.
Advancement Opportunities: Evaluates regional community needs and positions the YMCA to secure new program sponsorships, contracts, and collaborative service delivery opportunities.
Executive Oversight & Fiscal Sustainability Macro-Financial Performance: Holds ultimate accountability for the branch's financial health, reviewing and approving the overall budget, financial forecasts, and revenue targets.
Operational Partnership: Formulates the operational mandate for the Branch Operations Director, providing mentorship and high-level support while delegating full authority over daily facility operations and staff supervision.
Crisis Management: Collaborates with the Branch Operations Director and Association leadership to provide executive oversight and decision-making during high-risk scenarios or critical emergencies.
