The Position OPEN & PROMOTIONAL EXAMINATION - ONE YEAR PROBATIONARY PERIODThis current recruitment is for Glendale Fire Department. Candidates who are placed on this eligible list may be considered and utilized by other Divisions/Departments within the City.Under the general direction of a division head, positions in this classification perform responsible administrative and managerial duties.
Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:Ensures Department services are provided with exceptional customer service and the highest level of ethical standards.
Coordinates the administrative and business management function of the division, including the processing and preparation of budget and personnel transactions.
Conducts studies of divisional operations, recommends changes in policies and procedures, and supervises the installation and implementation of approved changes, when directed by the division head.
Instructs other personnel and members of the public in the various elements of the City's budget and other aspects of the City's fiscal policies and procedures.
Prepares a wide variety of financial analyses, forecasts, and reports utilizing Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Peoplesoft, and other computer software programs.
Prepares written administrative reports and conducts surveys pertaining to divisional activities.
Prepares formal reports for presentation to the City Manager and the City Council.
Provides information in response to public inquiries, receives and resolves complaints, and administers the division's public information program.
Represents the division head at meetings and in administrative matters and appears on his/her behalf before commissions or other boards and agencies upon assignment by the division head.
Directs the implementation, coordination, development, and operation of federal, state, or local grant programs or projects. Processes or supervises the processing of pertinent documents such as contracts, permits, petitions, bid specifications, requests for proposal, ordinances and resolutions.
May drive on City business depending on the needs of the position.
May supervise subordinate employees. May review and evaluate employees' job performance and effectively recommend personnel action.
Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe, efficient manner.
Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires.
Minimum RequirementsAn equivalent combination of experience and education sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
ExperienceFour years of responsible experience in administrative work involving issues of budget, management, organization, personnel or other related functions.
Education/TrainingBachelor's degree in public administration, business administration, or a related field.
Highly DesirableExperience working in a public safety environment or other government agency.
Experience in grant compliance and finance (applying, reviewing, maintaining, and reporting) in a public safety environment or other government agency.
License(s)/Certification(s)Valid Class C California Driver's License.

Promotional Eligibility Any City of Glendale employee who meets the minimum qualifications for this position, has completed probation or six months of City employment, and is occupying a permanent full-time classification.
Hourly City employees may be considered, provided that they furnish proof of continuous employment immediately preceding the final filing date, which would equal a minimum of six months of full-time service or 1040 part-time hours. (Civil Service Rule VIII 4-E).

Examinations will assess the candidate's education, experience, knowledge and skills related to the job. The City of Glendale reserves the right to modify the examination components or their weighting.
