Overview

Donohoe Construction Company is seeking a highly motivated Estimator to join our Building Enhancements team

Responsibilities

The position is responsible for project types such as major building renovations, hotel renovations, higher education, and tenant build-outs. The typical project cost ranges between $500,000 to $10M, with an average of 1-2 bids per week.

  • Perform quantitative and trade specific scope analysis of construction documents and project program requirements; prepare a complete cost estimate
  • Prepare conceptual cost models, budgets, and feasibility models based on historic and current cost data and/or subcontractor input, as appropriate
  • Analyze project program, design, costs, and subcontractor input and provide comparisons, cost savings, value engineering options, and other recommendations
  • Create pre-bid qualification packages and RFP responses
  • Develop and review subcontractor scopes of work based on the project program and desired outcome
  • Manage subcontractor pricing, including information dissemination, review of subcontractor's proposals, and coordination with the desired scope of work
  • Assist with current, as well as new business development
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or equivalent degree and/or work experience
  • Min 5 years estimating experience in Construction
  • Must have a proven track record in performing lump sum bid and negotiated bid work
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Project, BlueBeam, Building Connected
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work well with a diverse group of individuals
  • Maintain a high sense of urgency and attention to detail
  • Possess a high degree of integrity and dedication to superior customer service

Physical demands: The work is mostly sedentary with periods of light physical activities. The role involves extensive computer work - including frequent use of spreadsheets, print/digital documents, email, software systems (often multiple platforms simultaneously), and may require prolonged periods of sitting at a desk. Employee to walk or stand for short or mid periods; lift and carry up to 20 pounds; climb stairs, bend, reach, hold, grasp, and turn objects; and operate standard office equipment (computer, mouse, keyboard, phone and printer). The work requires the ability to speak clearly and to see and hear clearly with or without correction.

Work environment: Primary work is performed indoors in a standard office environment, equipped with workstations in an open space. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, regular and frequent interruptions due to phone calls or emails, or time sensitive requests are expected. Work is subject to inflexible deadlines and may involve competing priorities. Strong focus, organization, and the ability to shift tasks quickly and efficiently is necessary. Employee may be subject to work beyond the normal scheduled work hours.

Telework: As a full-time home-office based job, this position is eligible for teleworking/work-from home opportunities in accordance with the Company's Telework Policy. However, there are specific tasks that require onsite, in-office work, collaboration and coordination. Approval by the position's supervisor, Chief Financial Officer and Division President is required to telework/work-from home.
