Requisition Overview

Kiewit Power Delivery is seeking a motivated Estimator to support the development of competitive bids and proposals for transmission, distribution, and substation construction projects across North America. This role will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates during all phases of the bid process, collaborating closely with operations, engineering, procurement, and project management teams to develop winning project solutions.

The ideal candidate will have experience estimating power delivery construction projects and a strong understanding of labor, equipment, materials, subcontracting, and construction execution strategies. This position is based in Lenexa, KS and will require travel to project sites and client locations as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed construction cost estimates for transmission line, distribution, and substation projects.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, contracts, and bid documents to determine project scope and pricing requirements.
  • Prepare labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor cost estimates.
  • Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
  • Participate in bid strategy meetings and risk review sessions.
  • Work closely with engineering, procurement, and operations teams to ensure accurate pricing and execution plans.
  • Identify project risks and opportunities and incorporate them into estimate development.
  • Support proposal preparation and client presentations when required.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and estimate reviews to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Assist with estimate handoff activities to project teams following award.
  • Travel to project sites to evaluate construction conditions and support pursuit efforts.

Qualifications

  • Experience preparing conceptual, budgetary, and detailed construction estimates.
  • Knowledge of transmission line, substation, and distribution construction methods and sequencing.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating software platforms.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with multiple concurrent pursuits.
  • Willingness to travel as required.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with EPC and self-perform construction projects.
  • Experience estimating projects ranging from 69kV through 500kV+ transmission systems.
  • Knowledge of utility construction, procurement, and project execution practices.
  • Previous field engineering, project engineering, or construction operations experience.
  • Familiarity with Kiewit estimating processes and procedures.
