Jobs Description:

The Advanced Electronics and Photonics (AEP) Core Facility seeks a qualified candidate for a Equipment Automation Engineer position. The candidate will mainly be focused on interfacing AEP Core's equipment offerings with a manufacturing execution system (MES) software system and implementing the adaptive patterning software. Specific task associated with adaptive patterning implementation may include provisioning server, network, and data storage capacity, configuring network and data storage connectivity with the die measurement system (DMS), direct write lithography, optical inspection, and the software framework and configuring those systems properly to work with the software, incorporating statistical process control (SPC) outputs to the system, and monitoring the AP Engine dashboard for processing status and system health. The automation engineer may also be required to provide solutions for automation for some of the Core's more manual processes as well as software development to enhance the data flow and documentation and identifying ways to optimize and error-proof Core systems.

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will interact with individuals responsible for areas such as device physics, deposition, etching, photolithography, packaging, and electrical test to ensure robust wafer packaging processes that meet the precise physical and electrical requirements for our customers.

Customer service is an integral part of the Equipment Automation Engineer position. The candidate will be interacting directly with a wide variety of students, faculty, and other professionals to provide services as requested. Skill in communicating technical ideas in a positive and patient manner is a must.

This position is funded by DoD and requires candidates to meet the definition of US person as defined in as defined by 22 C.F.R. a7 120.62 and 15 C.F.R. a7 772.1.

Essential Duties:
  • Implement adaptive patterning process software.
  • Implement MES software with AEP Core's existing and future equipment and integrate and automate statistical process control (SPC) data collection and analysis.
  • Recommend, scope, and assist in the procurement and installation of future equipment and equipment upgrades for the Core.
  • Cross-train in other areas to provide backup and assistance as needed.
  • Write procedures to help staff and other users safely operate equipment, the MES software, the Adaptive Patterning process, and other software/automation systems.
  • Regular activities include ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and exchange accurate information to perform essential duties.


Desired Qualifications:
  • Seven (7) years of engineering or related experience including responsibility for MES incorporation; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the operation and maintenance of MES software and statistical analysis of data.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Computer knowledge used for documentation and analysis.
  • Demonstrated strong software aptitude. Previous LabView experience is a plus.
  • IT system experience such as equipment automation, SECS/GEM interfacing, and program/project management.

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting and laboratory subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position, operating computer and other office productivity machinery; required to move a moderate distance to perform work.
  • Frequently moves up to 25 pounds for various needs.
  • Wear personal protective equipment before entering laboratories such as lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, closed toe shoes and respirator.
