Full Job Description
You Are:

The Epic Operational Database Administrator (ODBA) is responsible for the stability, performance, and security of Epic database platforms across AWS environments. This role participates in the design, build, and implementation of Epic Operational Databases (ODB) to AWS, ensuring environments meet Epic Cloud Specifications and organizational standards. The ODBA supports day to day database operations while enabling scalable, resilient architectures for Epic workloads in the cloud.

The Work:
  • Design, build, configure, and implement Epic ODB environments to AWS, following Epic and AWS cloud reference architectures.
  • Administer Epic Cache/IRIS databases, including backup/restore, patching, tuning, and high availability planning.
  • Monitor Epic ODB performance, proactively identify issues, and ensure adherence to SLAs.
  • Execute operational tasks: database maintenance, DR testing, availability management, and security controls.
  • Support cutover, smoke testing, integrated testing, and validation during AWS implementation.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud engineering, Epic application teams, and architects to ensure environment consistency.
  • Maintain documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures for AWS ODB environments.


Travel may be required for this role. The amount of travel will vary from 0 to 100% depending on business need and client requirements

What You Need:
  • Epic ODBA Certification
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Epic ODBA
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience administering Epic Cache/IRIS Operational Databases
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with Linux
  • Experience with backup, recovery, monitoring, and database security controls
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent (12 years) work experience (If an associate degree with 6 years of work experience)


Bonus Points If:
  • Experience operating or migrating Epic workloads in public cloud environments, ideally AWS.
  • Experience with AWS compute, networking, storage, security, and landing zone concepts.
  • AWS certifications (CLF-C02, SOA-C02, SAP-C02, or equivalent).
  • Experience automating operational tasks using Bash or CLI scripts or infrastructure as code (Terraform, Bicep, Ansible).
