Full Job Description
Location:
North Vancouver or New Westminster, BC

Description:

We are seeking an Environmental Specialist to join our Infrastructure Environmental Monitoring (IEM) group in either North Vancouver or New Westminster, BC. You will work on fast-paced, dynamic, construction projects throughout Western Canada. Project assignments will cross several industry sectors (e.g., roads, bridges, highways, rapid transit, marine and coastal development, pipelines, municipal infrastructure, tunneling, renewable energy, etc.).

Responsibilities:
  • Manage and supervise teams of environmental technicians and specialists responsible for environmental management and monitoring on a range of infrastructure projects.
  • Manage all aspects of project implementation, including resourcing, budgeting, scheduling, reporting, quality management, and day-to-day client liaison.
  • Manage required environmental field surveys in support of project design and implementation.
  • Provide technical assistance for acquiring environmental permits, licenses, and approvals from regulatory agencies in support of infrastructure projects.
  • Provide technical assistance in the preparation of a range of environmental compliance documents required for project approval and implementation, such as EMPs, environmental protection plans, and environmental work plans.
  • Work with project development teams - including proponents, regulators, designers, and construction personnel - to address environmental management and protection measures during project planning and implementation.
  • Coordinate and participate in field activities including data collection, environmental assessments, monitoring activities and reporting.
  • Supporting business development opportunities, including the writing of proposals.

Education and Experience:
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant environmental discipline (fisheries, aquatics, ecology, environmental science/studies).
  • 5 years of experience managing environmental aspects of infrastructure development projects.
  • Relevant professional certification (e.g., BIT/RPBio, RBTech, AAg, EPt, etc.) or ability to obtain is an asset.
  • Experience interpreting and working with federal and provincial environmental regulatory and permitting requirements associated with infrastructure development projects.
  • Experience working in large, multi-disciplinary teams is essential.
  • Experience managing a range of environmental disciplines (air quality, noise, surface and groundwater quality, soils, vegetation, fish and fish habitat, contaminated sites.
  • Access to a personal vehicle to drive to client sites.
  • A valid Canadian driver's license for the past three years, and the ability to meet the requirements for our third-party automobile insurance policy.

Other Assets/Skills:
  • Enthusiastic ability to work in the field for long hours in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to ensure project delivery and compliance through creative and adaptable solutions.
  • Capable of working and communicating with multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Ability to obtain permits, licenses, and approvals from local, provincial, and federal authorities as well as ability to write weekly reports, EMPs, etc.
  • Understanding of pertinent environmental legislation, regulations, and guidance documents.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for project management and coordination, and excellent organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to support business development opportunities, including writing proposals and marketing materials.
