Full Job Description
Facility Services, Inc. (FSI) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Environmental Specialist I to support one of our strategic partners in delivering critical Base Operations Support Services at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

Job Summary:

The Environmental Specialist I provides technical support for environmental compliance and sustainability programs in support of the Fort Belvoir Base Operations Support (BOS) contract. The position assists in ensuring compliance with federal, Department of Defense (DoD), Department of the Army, Commonwealth of Virginia, and installation environmental regulations while supporting day-to-day environmental operations.

This is an entry-level professional environmental position responsible for inspections, documentation, permit compliance, data collection, reporting, and assisting senior environmental staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Support environmental compliance programs across the installation.
  • Conduct routine environmental inspections of facilities and work sites.
  • Assist with implementation of:
    • Hazardous Waste Program
    • Stormwater Management Program
    • Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Program
    • Air Quality Program
    • Drinking Water and Wastewater Compliance
    • Underground Storage Tank (UST) Program
    • Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) Program
    • Petroleum, Oils and Lubricants (POL) management
  • Perform environmental site assessments and field investigations.
  • Collect environmental samples including:
    • Soil
    • Water
    • Stormwater
    • Waste streams
  • Assist with hazardous waste characterization and disposal activities.
  • Maintain environmental records required by federal and Army regulations.
  • Prepare inspection reports and corrective action documentation.
  • Support permit compliance activities including:
    • Virginia DEQ permits
    • MS4 Stormwater Permit requirements
    • Spill reporting documentation
  • Maintain environmental databases and electronic records.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly and annual environmental reports.
  • Participate in internal environmental audits.
  • Coordinate with installation personnel, subcontractors and regulatory agencies when required.
  • Assist with employee environmental awareness training.
  • Respond to environmental incidents and spills as required.
  • Participate in emergency response activities.
  • Support sustainability initiatives and pollution prevention (P2) programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following:
    • Environmental Science
    • Environmental Engineering
    • Biology
    • Chemistry
    • Natural Resources
    • Ecology
    • Physical Science
    • Related technical discipline

Equivalent experience may be substituted
  • 1-3 years of environmental compliance experience.
  • Experience supporting government facilities or industrial operations preferred.
  • Experience with Army or DoD installations preferred.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance programs.
  • Will also have knowledge and general proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other required software that is used at the job site.
  • Experience in O&M to include support of a work force that is responsible for O&M and repair of all facility systems, subsystems, and selected equipment typically found in a Base Operating Services contract.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Must be able to pass a company drug screen and background check. Must possess a valid state driver's license and insurable driving record.

Licenses and Certifications;
Will have the 30-Hour OSHA Construction Safety & Health Training Certification

Pay Range: $72,000 - $82,000 per hour
