What is the role?
LEA is seeking an Environmental Inspector to support environmental compliance monitoring during construction for the Metrolinx Grand River Railway Bridge Replacement project in Breslau, Ontario. This role will involve daily on-site inspections, monitoring environmental protection measures, documenting compliance, and communicating observations and recommendations to the project team and Contractor.
In this role, your duties and responsibilities will include:
- Undertake daily environmental compliance inspections and monitoring during construction for the Metrolinx Grand River Railway Bridge Replacement project in Breslau, Ontario.
- Inspections to focus on a review of implemented environmental protection measures, including but not limited to protection of Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC), fish habitat, Species at Risk, and wildlife.
- Complete functional assessment of implemented ESC measures consistent with the requirements of the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) Erosion and Sediment Control Guideline for Urban Construction (2019).
- Review Contractor work operations to ensure compliance with requirements of the Fisheries Act Authorization (FAA) and Endangered Species Act, 2007 (ESA) permit previously obtained for the project, Contract specifications and other applicable environmental laws, legislation, and industry best practice.
- Prepare an Inspection Checklist to document the daily inspection, which will include documentation of compliance, recommendations for improvements/maintenance, and notice of non-compliance. A comprehensive photographic record of works and key operations shall be maintained for each daily inspection.
- Liaise and communicate compliance observations with the Metrolinx and Contractor staff, and attend progress meetings, as required.
The qualifications you need:
- University or college degree in Environmental Studies or a related field, with a minimum of 1-2 years of experience conducting environmental compliance inspections on active construction sites.
- CAN-CISEC certification is considered an asset.
- Metrolinx Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification is considered an asset.
- Valid Ontario G Class driver's licence and the ability to travel to and from the site daily.
Compensation and Work Arrangements:
- Hourly Rate: $35/hour
- Hours: 45 hours per week
- Equipment Provided: Company-provided cell phone and laptop.
- Type of Position: 6-month Full-Time Contract.
- Work Schedule: Full-time on-site inspections, generally from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., for the duration of the contract.
