Environmental Construction Program Manager Role
You will:
- Partner with AWS stakeholders to develop regional and site-specific development strategies for the construction and operation of AWS data centers and infrastructure.
- Provide environmental technical assistance and risk management support to Regional Environmental Engineers, Construction Managers, and other internal partners
- Promote and manage environmental compliance during construction, focusing on protection of sensitive environmental resources, wetland permit compliance, and construction stormwater NPDES permit compliance (including erosion and sediment control)
- Prepare for data center operations with Regional Environmental Engineers
- Engage regularly throughout the construction phase with multiple AWS stakeholders, including Real Estate, Legal, Risk, Water, Design, Public Policy, Construction, and Operational teams, as well as external stakeholders such as regulatory agencies, consultants, and contractors
Key job responsibilities
- Assess environmental risks and requirements and develop mitigation and strategies to support site-specific project delivery.
- Manage environmental compliance during construction, specifically focusing on wetlands permits, protected species requirements, and erosion and sediment control.
- Communicate environmental requirements, risks, and activities to internal and external project partners.
- Coordinate with partner teams including Construction, Design, Water, Legal, Real Estate, Power, and others to manage construction and operational constraints.
- Develop site development strategies that are environmentally responsible and sustainable while meeting project timelines.
- Lead regulatory agency interactions and negotiations.
- Develop, manage, and track metrics to evaluate program performance.
A day in the life
The AWS Environmental Team in AMER manages the environmental requirements during data center and infrastructure development in the Americas. The Environmental Construction Program Manager will be a key member of the AMER Environmental team managing environmental compliance primarily during the construction phase of development.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with varying scenarios of infrastructure builds
- 5+ years of experience delivering multi-media environmental due diligence, permitting, and compliance projects with specific expertise in CWA 404 and NPDES permitting, groundwater protection, wastewater discharge, and natural and cultural resource evaluations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in stakeholder management, dealing with multiple stakeholders at varied levels of the organization
- Specialized technical knowledge of environmental permits during the construction phase of development such as wetland permits and construction stormwater permits
