Full Job Description
THE POSITION

The Environment & Compliance Advisor role provides field-based environmental, regulatory, project management and budget oversight to support safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible operations. This role partners closely with operational teams to ensure compliance with environmental requirements, manage environmental risks, and successfully execute environmental and regulatory projects within approved schedules and budgets. The position is expected to include field-level management of assigned Alberta Foothills area environment programs, including facility and field assets, and administration of field-based remediation programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Environmental & Regulatory Compliance
  • Provide environmental and regulatory guidance to field operations, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, permits, approvals, and corporate standards.
  • Conduct field inspections, compliance assessments, and audits to verify adherence to environmental obligations and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Monitor operational activities for environmental risks and implement mitigation measures to prevent incidents and non-compliance events.
  • Support environmental incident response, investigations, corrective actions, and close-out.
  • Coordinate environmental monitoring, inspections, and regulatory reporting activities to ensure compliance commitments are met.
  • Maintain environmental records, documentation, databases, and compliance tracking systems.
  • Support regulatory inspections and audits, including coordinating responses and corrective action plans.


Project Management
  • Lead and coordinate environmental and regulatory projects, including monitoring, remediation, reclamation, compliance improvement initiatives, environmental assessments, and operational support projects.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, resource plans, and risk mitigation strategies to ensure successful project execution.
  • Monitor project performance against milestones, deliverables, budgets, and regulatory commitments.
  • Manage contractors, consultants, and service providers to ensure work is completed safely, cost-effectively, and in accordance with project requirements.
  • Identify and address project risks, issues, and opportunities while providing regular progress updates to stakeholders.


Budgeting & Financial Management
  • Develop and manage project and operating budgets related to environmental and compliance activities.
  • Monitor expenditures, forecasts, commitments, and budget variances, ensuring effective financial stewardship.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements while maintaining regulatory compliance and environmental performance.
  • Support annual budgeting, long-range planning, and capital expenditure forecasting for environmental programs and projects.
  • Review and approve contractor invoices, work authorizations, and project expenditures within delegated authority limits.
  • Provide financial reporting and budget updates to management to support informed decision-making.


Stakeholder Engagement
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, land, legal, and regulatory stakeholders to achieve environmental and business objectives.
  • Deliver environmental awareness training, coaching, and support to field personnel and contractors.
  • Participate in emergency response activities by providing environmental expertise and regulatory guidance.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree in Environmental Science or a related discipline (other relevant education/experience combinations will be considered).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the energy industry, with a focus on facilities and/or pipelines.

  • Strong computer skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities across field and corporate teams.

  • A valid driver's license and ability to provide a 5-year standard driver abstract (clean driver's abstract).
