Full Job Description
ENVIRONMENTAL & SHORELINE COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST

About The Position

The Environmental & Shoreline Compliance Specialist will provide environmental and regulatory guidance to ensure compliance with shoreline management provisions of the Osage project FERC License and Corps of Engineers permitting requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform site inspections to measure erosion and perform on-site compliance evaluations for bank stabilization and similar shoreline facilities,
  • Investigate complaints and suspected violations regarding un-permitted structures, pollution, dredging and other land disturbances on Ameren Missouri property around the lake.
  • Communicate with shoreline residents to determine the nature of suspected violations and obtain evidence of violations and bring violations into compliance.
  • Evaluate applicant submitted environmental assessments for completeness and compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Prepare written, oral, tabular, and graphic reports summarizing requirements and regulations, including compliance reports for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers under General Permit 38 for Lake of the Ozarks.
  • Be able to identify failing waste treatment systems and report them to proper state and local regulating authorities.
  • Inform individuals and groups of pollution control regulations and the importance of preserving and protecting the lake/s water including explanation of how problems can be corrected and recommending best management practices for shoreline development.
  • Be able to identify wetlands and perform vegetation inventories, site analysis and enforcement in accordance with a Vegetative Cover Policy. Provide guidance to Real Estate and Plant staff to ensure that environmental compliance programs are implemented in a manner required by the respective federal, state and local requirements.
  • Interface with federal, state and local regulatory agencies as needed to ensure environmental programs are implemented as required.
  • Evaluate proposed regulations and implementation of compliance programs mandated by Ameren Missouri's license and other local, state and federal rules and regulations to ensure compliance. Prepare comments on proposed regulations and participate in the shoreline permitting process.
  • Provide inspection reports and site/resource analysis for compliance with Ameren Missouri's Historic Property Management Plan, Recreation Enhancement Plan, Shoreline Management Plan, and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan.
  • Identify opportunities to improve environmental and project compliance performance and cost effectiveness.
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain inspection records
  • Prepare and present educational programs to developers and the local community on shoreline management and environmental programs.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Biology, Environmental Studies, Chemistry, Resource Management, Planning or related field with emphasis on environmental or aquatic biology is required. Two or more years of shoreline management, land surveying, construction management, land use planning or related experience required. Must have a solid understanding of environmental issues subjected to public lakes.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

Strong communication and writing skills required. Good analytical and decision making skills required. Human relation skills and proficiency with using GIS tools and software for interpreting and preparing maps, documents, and site plans required.

Compensation Range:
$88,500.00 - $137,200.00

At Ameren, base salary is one component of a competitive compensation package for employees. Our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered. Roles are eligible for additional rewards including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance.
