Full Job Description
SMC is actively looking for an Entry Level Electrical Engineer / Designer to help execute electrical design for mission critical projects. Typical project types may include design of greenfield and brownfield data center facilities, design of fit-out packages for hyperscale and enterprise clients of colocation providers, data center campus planning, conceptual designs and feasibility studies, and power systems studies such as Neher-McGrath, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash.
This candidate will execute specific design tasks as part of a broader electrical team while furthering their own knowledge and developing their skills. The candidate will typically work under the guidance of senior and/or mid-level engineers. The electrical design scope will be a part of a broader project and therefore this candidate will learn to interface with design leads within SMC (mechanical, telecommunications, fire protection, plumbing) as well as externally including architectural, civil, structural, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES
This candidate will have the opportunity to execute specific electrical design tasks for various project types while working and coordinating with clients and design leads from all disciplines. This candidate shall have the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and with clients while being able to meet scheduled project deadlines. They will be a self-starter not afraid to do independent research in addition to directly-assigned project work in order to further their career growth.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assist with the design and drawing of electrical infrastructure for mission critical buildings and campuses including medium voltage distribution; highly redundant power systems including various redundancy topologies such as distributed and block redundant; on-site generation and UPS backup; typical building systems such as small power, lighting, grounding, and fire alarm.
Assist with coordination between internal and external disciplines for required electrical power connections to equipment.
Review and understand client standards, design criteria, applicable codes, and best practices and work with senior engineers to understand how they impact the design of each project.
Review and gain an understanding of local and national construction codes and project specifications to grow a broader understanding of the construction process.
Utilize Autodesk Revit on a daily basis to produce detailed design documents.
Have experience with the use of Microsoft tools such as Word, Power Point, Excel, and Teams.
Meet project deadlines, including working necessary hours to complete major deliverables.
Have the ability to travel when required to project sites and/or meetings (less than 10% travel).
Have the ability to clearly communicate with others in both written and spoken forms.
Be willing to take direction from senior and mid-level engineers and designers in order to execute delivery of specific design elements.
Be an active participant in training and mentoring opportunities in order to grow knowledge and capabilities.
Maintain excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

COMPENSATION
Base Compensation: $45,000-$150,000 (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors such as education, experience, skills, and/or location)
