About the Role:

The Mechanical Design Engineer II is a strong contributor to the design and development of Sloan's growing product portfolio and continuous improvement initiatives while also working in a highly collaborative team to customize existing products to meet customer requests and support the core business. This position requires an intermediate mechanical engineering (design, structural analysis, etc.) and manufacturing knowledge (machining, structural weldments and sheet metal), but must also have a keen eye for aesthetics in architecture. Responsible for conducting engineering analysis, prototyping, and experiments to support new product development and production, ensuring high standards of quality. Utilize, develop and promote the use of best practices in engineering such as DFMEA and tolerance analysis. Develop specifications and proposals, and collaborate with multi-site internal engineering resources and outside design partners to execute mission critical projects contributing to Sloan's future growth.

What you'll do:
  • Design new products in a team based, stage gate development process in cooperation with the PMO. Design and document components & complex assemblies. Develop and document engineering specifications and material requirements as required. Process ECNs. Follow established document control procedures.
  • 3D Modeling and creation of customer and production drawings using Creo Parametric including semi-custom and custom products. Develop new features and solve design challenges.
  • Analyze and resolve design challenges and quality issues via a solid understanding of the science behind the design through appropriate engineering analysis including FEA, tolerance analysis, statistical methods, simulation, calculation, and other engineering methodologies.
  • Specify and plan robust experimentation, validation, and verification of new and improved product design performance as part of a fully integrated sink. Partner with the Reliability Lab to develop R&D test plans to validate engineering designs to product requirements.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with all levels of the organization both orally and in written fashion. Coordinate engineering activity with Sloan partners and design sites. Participate in setting design standards across the organization.
  • Perform continuous improvement through identification and implementation of process improvements leading to improved efficiency on design automation and repetitive tasks.
  • Investigate new technologies to be applied to future products. Research, recommend, and implement cutting edge technologies and techniques related to product prototyping and manufacturing.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.

What you'll need:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ Years Relevant Experience with Bachelor's Degree
  • Proficiency and expertise in 3D Modeling with ability to produce supporting documentation including 2D drawings and basic FEA analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills in structural analysis, tolerance analysis, and GD&T.
  • Strong oral communications skills (English).
  • Working knowledge of machining, structural steel weldments and sheet metal.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

A plus, but not required:
  • Advanced Creo Parametric modelling skills working parametrically using logic-based equations to drive parts and assemblies.
  • Experience with FEA software.
  • Experience with new product development.
  • Experience working in a custom design and build environment.
  • Hands-on building ability with Corian, wood, and/or steel; prototyping experience.
  • Project management experience.
