The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Full-Time ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (Explosive Test, Senior Mechanical Engineering Technician), NJ-0802-04, to work at the Air Force Materiel Command, (AFMC) in the Air Force Sustainment Center (AFSC) in the Ogden Air Logistics Complex (OO-ALC) with 309 MMXG at HILL AIR FORCE BASE located in LAYTON, UT. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a senior level mechanical engineering technician to provide technical engineering support for DOD weapon system component Test and Evaluation in support of acquisitions, sustainment, and system modification, measured against program requirements, allowing for Program level decision making. Works with Test Engineers to characterize project technical objectives and predictions (expectations) of the system or unit under test. Execution requires application of multi-discipline engineering principles, weapons system knowledge, thorough understanding of explosives, and detailed technical expertise in the areas outside of normal maintenance and training focused on function-as-intended, destructive test and evaluation.

- The employee may be required to work extended or other than normal duty hours to include overtime, and/or days, swings, or owl shifts.

- The employee may occasionally travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft IAW Joint Travel Regulations to other government installations, contractor facilities, or other commercial locations for both training and mission accomplishment.

- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military and commercial aircraft in a temporary duty assignment (TDY).

- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evening, weekends, and/or holidays, base exercises, contingencies or emergency situations. Also, may be required to work irregular shifts in support of surge workloads, exercises, contingencies, or emergencies.

- Knowledge of advanced mechanical concepts and ability to convert theoretical ideas to functional components and systems.

- The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required for the position.

- The employee is required to wear all appropriate protective clothing and safety equipment in certain areas of the range test sites.

- Ability to identify, analyze, and translate complex information, make appropriate judgments, and evaluate options.

- The actual work performed in this position has been reviewed and determined that it does not meet any of the exception criteria defined in 5 CFR 551. This position has been designated as nonexempt.

Recruitment Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of weapons system processes and methods, test setup, test execution, and test reporting for a wide and complex variety of explosive tests.

2. Knowledge of a wide range of electrical and mechanical engineering principles and practices, operating parameters, capabilities, and limitations of engineering and data acquisition systems associated with high-sample rate data acquisition, and of system and component design, capabilities, configurations, limitations, and functional operation and of various types of electronics logic.

3. Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, and practices with respect to testing explosive items.

4. Skill in the interpretation of technical data such as drawings, schematics, blueprints, and specifications of complete electronic systems; in analyzing problems in integrated/interfacing systems involving numerous complex circuits; and in using complex electronic and electromechanical test and measuring equipment using integrated test functions for different purposes.

5. Ability to suggest modifications to standard procedures, adapt equipment or techniques, and make departures from previous approaches to solve technical problems or improve system performance for highly complex electronic systems to trace electronics logic from one system to another.

6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to represent the organization in a professional

manner.

7. Ability to use computer to enter and extract data to maintain records and document actions.

8. Ability to apply safety and security, and health principals and procedures and to apply internal management procedures to work performed.
