Full Job Description
Main Purpose of Job & Key Responsibilities

To provide technical leadership for new product development, complex sales order engineering plus technical analysis & research support tasks. The primary focus being the delivery of new and enhanced products that meet the needs of our customer base in a timely and cost-efficient manner to the correct performance and quality standards. This will involve supporting all aspects of product development; from concept, early mock ups, product proceeding technology, prototype builds, engineering validation and testing through to preproduction and infant care.

  • Lead, coach and mentor a defined technical team consisting of mechanical, electrical, design drafters, specialist support and\or fluidics engineers.
  • Set direction working with the assigned product manager, project leader to ensure the agreed technical requirements and deliverables are met as per the Avtron NPD gated review process/specific project plan or defined support task.
  • Undertake the necessary research, analysis and validation to support the introduction of any new technology to manage business risk.
  • Propose and develop the necessary mechanical, electrical and other physical attributes to generate product concepts, then finalized designs to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Conceptualize ideas into prototypes using various modelling and analysis tools and develop materials list (BOM's), drawings, supporting documentation and the cost framework as necessary.
  • Prepares engineering submittals for filing product with agencies such as UL/CSA/CE working through third party product certification and test houses, as necessary.
  • Work with Engineering management to plan team member goals and individual work and development plans. Manage assigned team holidays.
  • Conduct check-in sessions with team members to ensure goals and tasks are on schedule; providing remediation plans as necessary.
  • Assists in new employee recruitment and selection, administering on-boarding and suitable training plans.
  • Interface with key customers and suppliers to help define the scope and technical solutions.


  • Provide updates on project status or timeline for agreed tasks. Support gated project reviews as necessary working with the project manager.
  • Any other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Suitable engineering qualifications (e.g.BS / BEng Degree) preferred, advanced degree would be a plus.
  • Medium voltage experience would be a plus.
  • 5 to 10 years NPD experience ideally linked to load bank design or adjacent 3-phase power equipment design such as diesel generator, power distribution, switch gear, etc..
  • Experience of Avtron design tools and SAP Beas. Proficient Microsoft 365user.


Proven Skills
  • A strong personality with energy, drive, adaptability, problem solving and decision-making capability. Ideally, having worked with similar electrical products and can bring an aligned and best practice experience to allow the continued growth of the engineering team / business.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, comfortable discussing and engaging with key working parties both internally and externally.
