Job Description:

As the Medium Wheel Loader Engineering Project Team Leader Engineer, you will provide project technical leadership to product development of Medium Wheel Loader (MWL) product introductions through planning, coordination, & execution. Customers have unique needs and look to Caterpillar for innovative solutions to their needs. Many times, these customs or standard solutions become a regular part of the product offerings.

This role provides senior technical and program leadership for complex engineering content, new product introduction (NPI), and new Technology introduction (NTI). The position owns engineering design control, quality outcomes, and project execution while leading cross-functional teams to deliver safe, compliant, cost-effective, and customer-focused solutions. The role balances deep technical judgment with strong people leadership, process discipline, and continuous improvement.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead multiple or complex engineering projects involving cross-functional stakeholders, products, and value chain partners.
  • Define and refine project scope to address business challenges and opportunities.
  • Coordinate resources across engineering, sales, marketing, product development, value chain, and manufacturing teams. Oversee project progress, timing, and costs while clearly communicating status, risks, and decisions to stakeholders.
  • Direct project staffing, build team alignment, motivate, develop and mentor team members to deliver results.
  • Champion sound project management practices, monitor major projects against plan, and support high-risk, high-impact work.
  • Guide requirements analysis and help teams translate business needs into clear, traceable technical deliverables.
  • Support product design and development from concept through production while helping resolve complex technical issues.
  • Guide and lead teams to resolve myNPI issues as it relates to New Product Development.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related fields.

Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing or product management environment
  • Influencing Through Expertise: Leverages strong subject matter expertise and clear communication to influence decisions, build credibility, and develop others while driving high-impact outcomes across the organization.
  • Project Management (Expert Level): Leads large, complex engineering projects by defining strategy, managing risk, aligning stakeholders, and ensuring successful delivery using best-in-class project management practices.
  • Team Management: Builds and leads high-performing teams by aligning mission and goals, maintaining engagement, leveraging individual strengths, and driving projects to successful completion with continuous improvement.


Top Candidates will also have:
  • Machine level software integration experience.
  • Mentorship experience with other team members to increase their skills and provide successful solutions to the various projects they will be undertaking.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively communicate with Caterpillar's upper management as needed.
  • Own complex engineering outcomes end-to-end-technical decisions, project delivery, quality results, and people development-while balancing customer needs, factory realities, and long-term product integrity.


Additional Information:
  • The primary work location for this role is Peoria, IL.
  • Requirement is to work in the office 5 days a week (full time).
  • Sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Relocation is available for the position.
  • This role might require up to 15 % travel - domestic and international.


Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $192,710.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
