Program Overview
We are excited to offer a unique opportunity to join our Waste Management Engineering Progression Program. This role offers a flexible hybrid work model, with a standard 35-hour work week. This program provides a structured career path for engineering professionals, encompassing roles at three key levels: Engineering Intern, Engineer, and Senior Engineer. This program is designed to support the planning, design, management, and authorization of engineering services, operations, and assets within the Division for a range of waste management projects. This includes environmental assessments, asset management, master planning, and maintenance activities. Participants will gain hands-on experience in managing projects, conducting assessments, and optimizing waste management operations.
Engineering Intern Compensation: $83,556.20 - $104,431.60 annually
The Engineering Intern will support small-scale waste management projects by assisting with planning, design, and execution under the supervision of senior staff. Responsibilities include contributing to the development of project schedules and budgets, managing procurement, directing technical staff, administering contracts, conducting site visits, and assessing work quality. The Intern will also prepare technical and Council reports while gaining experience in environmental assessments, engineering standards, and legislative compliance through collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Engineering or Applied Science, or a related field.
- Eligible for registration as an Engineering Intern with PEO.
Engineer Compensation: $102, 120.20 - $127,654.80 annually
The Engineer will independently manage medium-scale waste management projects or support larger initiatives by overseeing planning, design, budgeting, and execution. This role involves leading project teams, mentoring Engineering Interns, administering contracts, engaging stakeholders through public consultations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and preparing technical and Council reports in collaboration with internal and external partners.
Qualifications:
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or holding Limited License with PEO.
Senior Engineer Compensation: $112,330.40 - $140,413.00 annually
The Senior Engineer will lead large-scale, high-profile, or politically sensitive waste management projects from conception to completion, overseeing project scope, design, schedules, and budgets while ensuring compliance with environmental and legislative standards. This role also includes supervising and mentoring engineering staff, administering contracts, negotiating claims, and representing the Region in public consultations and high-level negotiations.
Qualifications:
- The same licensing requirements as the Engineer role, including a P.Eng. or Limited License with the PEO.
