Job SummaryUniversity of Michigan Health is seeking an Engineering Manager to join the Facilities Planning and Development (FPD) team. FPD provides user consultation and support services at numerous stages of project implementation, including concept development, planning, budgeting, funding, design, engineering, construction administration, project activation and limited commissioning. Responsibilities*Independently and with minimal supervision, coordinate all design activities of supporting staff and external Architects/Engineers to address the defined scope and budget of assigned facility system projects. Project work shall be in accordance with UMH Design guidelines, applicable codes, and all recognized standards.
Supervise, coordinate and participate in the preparation of estimates, plans and specifications for many concurrent new building, building renovation, or infrastructure upgrade projects. Projects may be single or multi-discipline.
Review and comment on completed construction document packages, studies, and other planning documents.
Act as the Michigan Medicine representative to consultants, contractors, suppliers and manufacturers in all matters of building design and construction.
Review and evaluate contractor bids and proposals and make recommendations on contract awards. Direct and/or participate in the preparation and updating of facility mechanical system master plans, capital project plans, and system upgrade/replacement planning.
Participate in the construction phase portion of projects in the preparation and/or review of request for information (RFI), bulletins, contract change documents (CCD), etc. Review shop drawings, perform field inspections and punchlists, etc.
Provide expert advice on issues directly related to areas of expertise and experience.
Required Qualifications*- Professional Engineering license or Master's in Engineering required.
- 10 or more years of progressively responsible experience in the design, construction, and installation of all aspects of heavy commercial (or industrial) building HVAC systems.
- Experience in the supervision of assigned technical staff and consultants.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience with MEP systems in large commercial or industrial facilities.
- Experience in hospitals or other medical facilities.
