JOB TITLE: Engineering Manager

DEPARTMENT: Engineering

REPORTS TO: Engineering Director

LOCATION: San Antonio, TX

Job Summary:

The Engineering Manager will manage a Team with up to 5 Engineering direct supports. They manage the Sites Engineering activities including day-to-day operations. The Engineering Manager will manage engineering projects through their entire lifecycle, including cost and benefit analysis, scheduling, and coordinating activities with stakeholders. The Engineering Manager monitors project scope, project budgets, and project schedules. The prioritize projects to ensure timely delivery and stakeholder satisfaction and will serve as the engineering point of contact for new customer initiatives.in San Antonio.

The Engineering Manager will establish engineering methodologies, principles, and tools to support trainings, process improvements, best practices and protocols. They will provide coaching and training to direct reports as well as other more junior members of the engineering team. The Engineering Manager leads initiatives with other departments to identify potential products, projects, or opportunities. Remains informed of new technologies and processes and implements changes to improve engineering capabilities. Takes a global leadership role for the JFA Engineering and Tech Ops Organization.

The Engineering Manager provides input into strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. Leads development of the San Antonio 5-year Capital Plan. Performs performance reviews for direct reports, including management of budget and merit increases. Resolves escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Team Leadership and People Management
  • Directs day-to-day operations of the San Antonio Engineers, managing a team of up to 5 Engineers. Sets clear goals and expectations for the team.
  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and development of team members.
  • Conducts performance reviews and career development discussions
  • Addresses performance shortfalls as necessary.
  1. Project Management
  • Plans, prioritizes, and oversees engineering projects.
  • Leads projects from concept through capital proposal, approval, installation, and implementation.
  • Monitors project progress and manage project risks. Ensures projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget and to the higher quality standards
  • Coordinates cross-functional initiatives with Operations, R&D, Commercialization, Quality, EH&S and other stakeholders.
  1. Technical Leadership
  • Provides technical leadership and guidance to the engineering team.
  • Drives adoption of engineering standards and best practices.
  1. Strategic Planning
  • Translates business objectives into engineering priorities.
  • Participates in long-term technology planning and innovation initiatives.
  • Evaluates new tools, technologies, and processes to improve team and operational effectiveness.
  1. Resource and Capacity Management
  • Allocates engineering resources across projects and priorities for the San Antonio Site. Manages workload of engineering team members
  • Reviews staffing needs and support workforce planning.
  • Allocates resources as needed to support day-to-day operation and reliability of the plant operations
  • Serves as single point of contact for San Antonio Plant Leadership team in case of need for engineering support
  1. Stakeholder Communication
  • Communicates project status, risks, and achievements to leadership.
  • Collaborates with Operations, Commercialization,Customers,R&Dandbusiness leaders.
  • Facilitatesdecision-making across departments.
  • Manage expectationsof internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree inan Engineeringdiscipline; broad applied experience across chemical,mechanical,controlsandprocessengineering.

  • Strong understanding of Quality Assurance systemsand GMP environments
  • Technical experience with high-speed packaging lines, thermal processing systems, blending systems, and CIP systems.
  • Proficiencyin MS Office, AutoCAD,Smartsheets,and MS Project.

Physical Demands:
  • Willingness to work additionalhours, and tailor schedule appropriately to support team goals and meet deadlines
  • Must possessadequate vision, hearing, and verbal communication skills to meet essential job performance and safety standards
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and regularly perform physical tasks such as pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, and using hands for detailed tasks
  • Work environment sometimes involves exposure to inclement weather
  • Physically capable of performing tasks such as lifting, climbing, and using hand and power tools, including pallet jacks, scales, ladders, and standard material handling and cleaning equipment
  • Capable of safely lifting upto 50 pounds frequently throughout the day; ability to handle heavier items with proper lifting equipment or team-assisted techniques to ensure safety

Work Environment:

Employees must be able to work in a dynamic manufacturing environment that may include exposure to odors, dust, moderate noise levels, and fluctuations in temperature and ventilation

Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times, which may include but is not limited to: safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, gloves, hairnets, uniforms, and face shields, as required by specific job duties and safety protocols
