Job Description:

Caterpillar's Resource Industries Division is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team responsible for Field Studies, Telematics and Advanced Control Feature development for our Rigid Frame Truck platforms. In this highly visible role, you will drive the development of next generation of machines, influence product strategy, and collaborate across the value chain (commercial, engineering, product support and dealers/customers) to deliver innovative solutions that enhance safety, productivity, and machine performance for customers around the world.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead the team in the planning and execution of competitive performance and application profile studies at customer sites.
  • Lead the team in the development and deployment of Data Acquisition Kits for field follow monitoring and issue resolution.
  • Coordinate the Software Bundle Development, Verification and Validation activities for Caterpillar telematics systems (Product Link Elite/VIMS) and Machine Features such as Truck Payload Management System, Tire TKPH and Road Analysis Control (RAC).
  • Collaborate directly with customers, proving grounds, and cross-functional teams to identify machine performance and controls improvements and resolve product issues.
  • Lead the development of data pipeline and analytics framework that aids in the efficient processing and analysis of Supercomm2 and VIMS data.
  • Manage staffing, employee development, performance management, and succession planning while fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence.
  • Influence machine architecture decisions and support Multi-Generation Product Planning (MGPP) and New Technology Introduction (NTI) initiatives.
  • Lead high-impact engineering projects and business-critical initiatives to deliver quality solutions on time and within budget.

Experience partnering with customers, dealers, and internal stakeholders to understand application requirements, market trends, and business priorities. Leverage customer insights and machine performance data to influence product improvements and future technology investments.

Skilled at leading cross-functional projects from concept through implementation. Coordinate engineering, software, validation, and product development activities to deliver business-critical initiatives on time, within budget, and aligned with strategic objectives.

Effective Communication & Collaboration
Demonstrate strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence technical decisions and build alignment across engineering teams, leadership, customers, and global partners. Effectively translate complex technical concepts into actionable business solutions.

Analytics & Data-Driven Problem Solving
Experience utilizing machine data, simulation tools, performance analytics, and data acquisition systems to identify trends, resolve issues, and support strategic decision-making. Drive continuous improvement through fact-based analysis and measurable results.

Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent education.

Top Candidates Will Have:
  • Previous engineering leadership or people management experience leading and developing high-performing technical teams.
  • Strong expertise with telematics modules, preferably with Caterpillar VIMS, Product Link Elite and Supercomm systems.
  • Prior machine/vehicle level controls software development, tuning and validation experience.
  • Understanding of Software-in-Loop and Hardware-in-Loop processes.
  • Knowledge of SQL, Python, or similar programming languages.
  • Knowledge of Snowflake, Tableau and other data pipeline and analytics tools and software
  • Prior experience with Large Mining Trucks or Quarry Trucks and knowledge of worldwide applications


Additional Information:

The primary work location for this role is Tucson, AZ, with a requirement to work on-site full-time at a Caterpillar facility.

This position may require 10% travel.

Summary Pay Range:

$147,760.00 - $221,640.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
