Full Job Description
Overview

Responsible for coordinating engineering activities on multi-disciplined projects under supervision from Engineering leadership. The Manager-Engineering I will be the common link between the Engineering team and Operations team, continuing through completion of design documents and into the project construction phase to support Request for Information (RFIs), change order negotiations, and other engineering construction support activities

Travel: This position can be located at one of our office locations daily: Fargo, ND; Indianapolis, IN; Clinton, IN; or Phoenix, AZ.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Promote and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures
  • Support the implementation of industry best practices with a mindset of continuous improvement
  • Act as an Industry Representative for the company
  • Assist in preparation of the project schedule, evaluation of subcontractor bids, and negotiate contract with Engineering Consultants
  • Collaborate with the Engineering team to monitor the engineering deliverable schedule to ensure the project schedule stays on track
  • Support one or more projects and proposals at a time
  • Collect and organize questions from Team and Subcontractors to be presented to Client via Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Participate in subcontractor scope clarification
  • Lead design meetings with multiple company stake holders, including the company site teams, clients, consultants, suppliers, and electric utilities
  • Provide Value Engineering evaluation of conceptual design
  • Review and audit engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with the company and client requirements
  • Prepare Engineering Work Orders for execution with Engineering Consultants
  • Develop and monitor open issues during design phase
  • Track and monitor design progress of engineered drawing deliverables and technical submittals
  • Arrange for Phase I Environmental, Geotechnical Evaluations, Topographical Surveys as required
  • Ensure Reviews and Submittals are properly conducted and timely
  • Coordinate site plan approval efforts and reviews by internal stakeholders through Page- Turn Review meetings
  • Collaborate with Engineering team as needed to provide contract clarification to determine out-of-scope client requests
  • Assist with change order negotiations with subcontractors, subcontractors, and Engineering Consultants
  • Accumulate and document in central database 'lessons learned' for projects
  • Travel to project sites as required to foster relationships with project teams, help solve engineering related issues, and understand/implement lessons learned
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

Engineering Manager I:

  • Compensation $$102k-$130k / year, commensurate with experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related major
  • Three to five years of Engineering experience with knowledge of construction techniques, estimating and construction management
  • Renewable energy construction experience
  • Professional Engineer license, or path to obtain, preferred

Enginerring Manager II:
  • Compensation $$119k-$155k/ year, commensurate with experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field
  • Five to seven years of Engineering experience with knowledge of construction techniques, estimating and construction management
  • Renewable Energy construction experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and technical documents
  • Understanding of terms, nomenclature and business models used in the construction industry
  • Ability to interact professionally with all levels within the organization and with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Primavera, Procore, InEight, and other Construction Software
  • Write reports, business correspondence and document project activities
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from engineering managers, project managers, superintendents, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability in leading efforts to identify and evaluate constructability and risk issues, assisting in the preparation of the project schedule, evaluation of subcontractor bids and negotiating contracts with Design Professionals (including scope of services)

  • When visiting jobsites the work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
  • This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises
