Full Job Description
Breezeway is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead two of the squads building our core product - property operations and guest experience. You'll be responsible for what these squads ship and for the engineers who build it. You'll partner closely with Product and Design to turn roadmap into delivered work, and with engineering leadership on technical direction. You'll report to the Director of Engineering. What You'll Do Lead and grow your squads • Manage engineers across two squads through regular 1:1s, coaching, feedback, and active career development • Own hiring, onboarding, performance, and retention • Build a culture where engineers do their best work and feel supported in growing Own delivery • Partner with Product and Design to translate roadmap into clear, executable plans • Own planning, capacity, estimation, and prioritization across your squads • Keep releases small, frequent, and well-tested, with tight feedback loops and minimal process overhead • Remove blockers, manage cross-squad dependencies, and surface risk and tradeoffs early Shape technical direction • Partner with engineering leadership on technical roadmap and cross-squad alignment • Provide technical guidance and help your squads make sound architecture and design decisions • Hold a high bar for engineering quality, operational health, and craft • Champion modern, effective engineering practices, including AI-assisted development Who You Are • A people-first leader who genuinely cares about growing engineers and building healthy, high-trust squads • Someone who leads through context and direction rather than control - you set the what and let your squads own the how • Comfortable with ambiguity and energized by building structure where it's missing • Pragmatic about process - you reach for the lightest thing that works and aren't precious about ceremony • A clear communicator who earns trust across engineering and with cross-functional partners • Someone who holds a high bar without micromanaging What You'll Bring • Several years of software engineering experience, including roughly 2+ years directly managing engineers • A track record of leading delivery in product engineering • A solid technical foundation - you came up as an engineer and can engage credibly on architecture, design, and code • Experience in an iterative, agile-style delivery model, partnering closely with Product and Design • Familiarity with React, Python, and AWS best practices • Bonus points for: • Experience in B2B SaaS, operations software, or the vacation rental / hospitality space • Experience standing up or maturing engineering process in an early or fast-growing org • Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows and how to adopt them well We're a remote-first company with team members across the U.S. and globe, but we currently hire only in the following states and countries.
