DescriptionThe Manager Engineering 2 - Rocket Motor Assembly will be responsible for managing the component design section (secondary structures), which is part of the Metal Structures & Integration department team. Responsibilities include managing technical execution and standards, employee hiring and development, workflow processes, and program/project support. The qualified candidate must be able to effectively lead a team of highly skilled engineers at multiple locations that perform all aspects of conceptual rocket motor component design, and structural analysis. The manager will collaborate directly with Business Development, and Program and Engineering Leadership to grow business by developing concepts for future programs, technology, and strategy. This role will report to the Manager of Metal Structures & Integration department.
This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide leadership, direction, and management of the design, and structural analysis team of 7-10 engineers
- Champion company values, including safety, inclusion and diversity, standard methods, and continuous improvement
- Drive technical excellence by upholding technical standards, identifying risks, and cultivating the development of new methods, tools, and capabilities
- Provide business development and programs with technical results and associated risks within established cost and schedule
- Develop technical excellence in engineers, build and foster teamwork, and encourage close cooperation within and across functional organizations
- Formulate personnel development plans, track progress, and evaluate performance to ensure challenge and growth
- Resolve conflict
- Hire talented individuals to contribute to the team
- Perform resource planning and forecasting to meet the priorities, schedules, and budgets of multiple projects and programs
- Support new business opportunities (proposals, scope definition, BOEs, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with 8 years of professional experience - OR - Master's degree with 6 years of professional experience - OR - PhD with 4 years of professional experience.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
- Demonstrated team leadership skills: leader of significant technical projects/investigations/proposals, and management of tasks to meet schedule/budget
- Strong understanding of propulsion system physics, design, and analysis
- Strong understanding and broad application of engineering tools and methods
- Demonstrated experience and strong understanding / knowledge of the design process, analysis of rocker motor secondary components, as well as the final assembly manufacturing processes.
- Demonstrated experience with internal and external customers
- Ability to travel: Travel expectation is around 5%, and regular presence at both Bacchus and Promontory Utah facilities is critical
Preferred Qualifications:
- Broad understanding / knowledge of component design, structural analysis and risk assessment
- Engineering leadership experience in solid rocket motor development
- Employee talent identification and development
- Familiar with space, strategic, and commercial program leadership, and the customers they support
- Masters Degree

Primary Level Salary Range: $139,100.00 - $208,700.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
