Full Job Description
MAG Automotive LLC has an opening for a Director of Engineering at its facility in Sterling Heights, MI. Job duties include:

  1. Develop and maintain company engineering standards in accordance with industry and government standards and regulations including DIN, ANSI, OSHA & others.
  2. Managing turnkey design, build and launch of large-scale metal-cutting tool lines, high-performance multi-axis standard, custom metal removal machines and work holding fixtures for the OEM automotive, diesel truck manufacturing metal cutting industry, specifically relating to engine blocks, engine heads, cylinders or other precision metal parts, using NX 3D modeling software
  3. Adhering to project schedules and assisting Production Control group in developing MS Project engineering schedules for new projects.
  4. Initiate and execute R&D projects to develop innovative technologies while adhering to approved R&D budgets, schedules, and scope.
  5. Manage and measure engineering group performance to project, R&D and departmental budgets turnover with internal technical team and customers, and engineering group absorption.
  6. Directing engineering department in the implementation and application of advanced engineering tools including designing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing stack-ups (GD&T), FEA, PFMEA, MFMEA, NX CAM, Cut-Pro Analysis, 6-Sigma Techniques and Statistical Process Controls (SPC).
  7. Developing engineering procedures, work instructions and forms in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
  8. Design and develop machining application processes to produce customer products within allotted cycle time on new and retool machines while ensuring metal-cutting machines will meet customer-projected product volumes.
  9. Assist sales estimating engineering budgets for proposals.


Position requires: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field, or foreign equivalent education, and 4 years' experience working in the metal cutting field in the position of Product Engineer, Project Engineer, Tooling Engineer or other mechanical engineering position. Experience may be obtained before or after receipt of bachelor's degree. 4 years' experience is required in each of the following:

  1. Working with NX or comparable 3D modeling software, multi-axis standard and on metal cutting manufacturing products including engine blocks, engine heads, cylinders or other precision metal parts.
  2. Applying GD&T and SPC.
  3. Develop machining application processes within allotted cycle time for new or retooled metal-cutting machinery.
  4. Managing large scale manufacturing projects for OEM automotive, diesel truck manufacturing metal cutting industry.
  5. Leading engineering turnover with internal technical team and customers.
  6. Managing turnkey launch in metal-cutting machine tool lines.


Experience may be obtained concurrently.
