Job Description

We have an opening for a NIF Controls Group Engineering Technical Coordinator. Under minimal supervision, you will be responsible for providing advanced technical and administrative oversight and/or coordination of LLNL projects and procurements for NIF Directorate program. You will determine supplier sourcing and internal/external fabrication options to purchase materials, parts, PCBAs, cable harnesses, and electro-optical/mechanical assemblies varying in size and complexity. NIF is a 24/7 operational facility and may occasionally require working overtime, shift, and/or weekends to accomplish goals; some work will occur in radiological environments. This position is in the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations (LSEO) Division within the Engineering Directorate.

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

In this role, you will
  • Provide advanced technical oversight and coordination support for electronic and mechanical orders and issuance of Work Orders.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, requestors, LLNL Procurement, production control, NIF warehouse, LLNL Receiving, and onsite optical fabrication shops to meet project cost and schedule requirements.
  • Provide advanced technical oversight and coordination support for set up and use of Manufacturing Resources Planning (MRP) systems; breakdown of drawing packages, creation/maintenance of Manufacturing Bills of Materials (MBOMs), and issuance of Work Orders.
  • Stage, transport, and deliver parts around the LLNL site, i.e., for secondary operations and/or staging of assembly/installation efforts; deliver or pick-up parts from local-area suppliers independently with general supervision/direction.
  • Provide regular, detailed status updates and reports to supervisors and requesters, while anticipating and reconciling supply issues, including technical factors affecting critical milestones.
  • Collaborate with Designers and Engineers in reviewing drawings and electrical schematics and other related technical information while applying appropriate standards, procedures, and techniques to screen parts sources. Review vendor proposed fabrication processes, pricing, and delivery schedules.
  • Initiate purchasing requisitions, secure approvals, and collaborate with Subcontract Administrators to secure award of contracts and identify and resolve issues for successful completion as needed.
  • Responsible for inventory control of small satellite spares inventory facility for inventory accuracy and operational readiness.
  • Facilitate and track vendor repairs of various electronic instruments.
  • Process general internal fabrication packages through LLNL fabrication facilities.
  • Independently interact with vendors, requestors, LLNL Procurement, Production Control, NIF warehouse, LLNL Shipping and Receiving.
  • Strictly adhere to laboratory safety and security guidelines, and regulations, and perform all assignments in accordance with ES&H, security, and business practice requirements and policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electronic/Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of education and significant related experience.
  • Advanced skills and understanding of PCBAs, cable harnesses, and electro-optical/mechanical assemblies and other relevant technologies and processes to coordinate fabrication and test of complex electronic, mechanical, and/or electro-optic systems and provide solutions to problems.
  • Advanced interpersonal, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Significant experience in purchasing requisitions, securing approvals, award contracts, purchasing items, and resolving procurement-related issues.
  • Significant experience with MRP, parts tracking, process flow, staging of material, and warehouse operations.
  • Significant experience performing cost estimating, procurement planning, procurement package creation, proposal evaluation, supplier oversight, source inspection, etc.
  • Ability to mentor others in specific on-the-job training, with advanced technical skills specific to assignment.
  • Advanced written, verbal, feedback and presentation communication skills in specific technical areas.

Pay Range

$125,310 - $153,444 Annually

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
