Full Job Description
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Troubleshoot existing plant operations and implement new process improvement ideas to ensure that Westlake Monomers meets key plant goals and objectives for Personnel Health/Safety, Environmental Protection, Raw Material Usage, VCM Production, and Operating Costs.
  • Stay abreast of the latest EDC/VCM manufacturing technologies (VCM Excellence team exchange, literature reviews, etc.). Make recommendations as required to ensure that Westlake Monomers is a competitive EDC/VCM production facility.
  • Supervise work activities for the process engineering group. Develop key employee work goals and objectives. Evaluate individual performance and recommend corrective actions as required to improve performance.
  • Assign responsibilities for monitoring plant conformance to safety and environmental regulations. Direct process calculations as required to assist Safety and Environmental groups. Recommend process improvements and initiate new projects as required to meet new Safety/Environmental regulations and/or improve compliance with existing regulations.
  • Coordinate work activities between the process engineering group and the other plant support groups (production, project engineering, maintenance, accounting, environmental, and safety).
  • Develop overall plant budgets for raw material and utility usages. Supervise routine monitoring and analysis of plant raw material and utility usages. Recommend appropriate plant operating conditions and process controls as required to optimize raw material and utility efficiencies. Review/Edit monthly progress reports.
  • Assign responsibilities for monitoring daily plant operating conditions, maintaining current operating conditions, maintaining current operating logs and current operator data sheets.
  • Assign responsibilities for monitoring equipment uptimes and maintenance requirements for key process equipment. Direct process equipment inspections and recommend repairs. Review/Edit monthly Reports.
  • Assign responsibilities for monitoring daily plant lab test results, maintaining current lab sample schedules, and laboratory database. Approve sample result action limits. Review reports and results.
  • Coordinate plant process revisions. Ensure that appropriate MOCs have been initiated, approve plant MOCs and supervise process engineering group procedures/training activities. Approve final process revisions and revised plant PFDs and P&IDs.
  • Supervise plant material and energy balances work as required. Direct and evaluate data collection for special plant studies and test projects. Review/edit results and reports.
  • Supervise process design work for new plant projects. Approve final project scope, PFDs, and P&IDs. Direct development of new procedures, operator training, and process startup activities as required by process engineering group.
  • Assist project engineering group with AFE preparation, evaluate plant project benefits, and set priorities for project implementations. Work with project engineering to develop plant capital spending plan and develop project schedules.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering preferred. Eight years progressive experience including operating and process design in a chemical plant.
