Reporting to the Process Control Supervisor, you will provide technical leadership and support for the operation and maintenance of process control systems at Redwater Nitrogen Operations, located approximately 40 km northeast of Edmonton. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and enhancing plant control systems to support safe, reliable, and efficient production. Working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, contractors, and external vendors, you will drive process performance improvements, provide troubleshooting expertise, and lead process control initiatives that strengthen operational excellence and asset reliability. The successful candidate is a strong communicator and collaborative problem solver with a continuous improvement mindset, a commitment to safety excellence, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic industrial facility that operates 24/7.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide day-to-day technical support for site control systems, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), process historians, Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), Advanced Process Control (APC) applications, and Operator Training Simulators (OTS).
  • Design and implement process control modifications through the Management of Change (MOC) process, while leading or supporting control system design activities for larger capital projects.
  • Monitor, maintain, and improve control system performance and reliability using system oversight and diagnostic tools.
  • Develop, maintain, and govern site-level process control documentation, ensuring compliance with Nutrien standards, procedures, and industry best practices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve process efficiency, operability, and reliability through effective control strategies, alarm management, and performance monitoring.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), risk assessments, and other process safety initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors to troubleshoot issues, implement solutions, and execute improvement projects.
  • Engage with Nutrien's broader process control network to share knowledge, leverage best practices, and support continuous improvement.


What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering with specialization in Process Control OR Electrical and Computer Engineering.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with APEGA.
  • 8+ years of experience in process control within continuous industrial or chemical manufacturing environments.Experience with Honeywell Experion DCS is preferred; experience with Honeywell TPS DCS is considered an asset.
  • Proven experience using alarm management, control performance monitoring, and optimization tools to improve plant performance and operational efficiency.
  • Strong understanding of process control theory, instrumentation, control system architecture, and industrial networking.
  • Experience working with process historians such as AVEVA PI is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex process issues, develop practical solutions, and execute improvements.
