Who we're looking for:

We are looking for a Software Engineer who operates with a high degree of urgency, a strong desire to learn, and a passion for modern development workflows. You are someone who wants to ship impactful code quickly and grow into a technical leader.

We are specifically seeking an AI-forward engineer. To us, this means you are someone who has fundamentally evolved your daily workflow using LLMs and AI agents. You should be the person on the team who leverages AI to bypass manual boilerplate, accelerate debugging, and ship clear, simple functionality at a pace that traditional methods simply can't match.

Most importantly, you're someone who shares in our passion for improving the lives of students through communication.

This role will include:
  • Mission-Driven Development: Write and ship clear, simple code that makes educators' lives easier and improves student outcomes.
  • Collaboration: Partner with product owners, design, and senior engineering teammates to ensure we build features as cleanly and simply as possible.
  • AI Adoption: Actively utilize and champion AI development practices within your daily workflow, helping your peers find ways to increase sprint velocity and code quality.
  • Scalable Engineering: Build and maintain features that operate robustly at scale while adhering to the highest level of security for the schools that rely on us.
  • Technical Culture: Contribute to a unified technical direction and a team culture focused on excellence, continuous learning, and speed.
  • Code & Architecture: Actively participate in PR reviews and help implement the future architecture of our systems, including supporting the evolution of our monolithic systems.
Our ideal candidate will have the following:
  • Backend & Frontend Experience: Professional experience working on services utilizing Ruby, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or PHP.
  • Relational Database Knowledge: Solid experience building application services with MySQL or PostgreSQL, including a strong understanding of relational databases beyond just standard ORM usage.
  • Systems Familiarity: Experience working within distributed systems and an understanding of how to work with and evolve monolithic architectures.
  • AWS Exposure: Experience deploying, monitoring, and operating services on cloud infrastructure, specifically AWS (Aurora, RDS, SQS).
  • API Development: Proficiency with building and consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).

The perks of working for us are great!

You'll get your foot in the door as our company continues to grow. We're big believers in work-life balance and provide:

  • Employer-paid health insurance (including dependent coverage)
  • An employer-matched 401K retirement savings program from day 1
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Stock options
  • Health + wellness reimbursements
  • PTO that increases each year
  • 15 paid holidays, including your birthday!

As a fully remote team, we'll make sure you have all the tools and equipment you need to make your home office a place where you can thrive.
