Job Summary

GA-EMS has an exciting opportunity for a Nuclear Qualification Engineer with the Radiation Monitoring Systems team in Rancho Bernardo, CA. Our team designs and maintains mechanical, electrical, and software systems used in nuclear power plants across the world to detect and monitor radiation. This role will be responsible for qualifying radiation monitoring systems and equipment to nuclear safety-related standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Generate plans, procedures and reports for qualifications of mechanical and electrical equipment for use in nuclear safety related applications:
    • Seismic testing per IEEE 344
    • Environmental testing per IEEE 383 including total integrated dose testing.
    • Electromagnetic Compatibility testing per NRC R.G 1.180 and EPRI TR-102323.
    • Perform advanced calculations and modeling to support qualification decisions
  • As part of the change management process, review design changes to ensure that equipment meets qualification requirements.
  • Develop critical characteristic acceptance plans for safety related equipment.
  • Review customer orders and verify that equipment meets the customers' qualification requirements.
  • Assist in the creation of factory acceptance testing procedures for systems and components.
  • Resolve non-compliant issues discovered by the quality department and disposition appropriately.
  • Support and participate in customer and outside agency audits.
  • Maintenance of systems designs due to part obsolescence issues:
    • Locate Form, Fit and Function replacements for obsolete parts
    • Modify designs to use new parts while minimizing impact
    • Update designs as required in support of changes due to obsolescence.
  • Participates in technical project/program reviews including preliminary and critical/detailed design reviews to ensure they meet defined product requirements.
  • Organize, schedule, and coordinate work to adhere to budget and schedule.
  • May be asked to participate in design activity for other product areas inclusive of power systems, and nuclear reactor systems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practice.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, four or more years of experience with a masters degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering degrees are preferred.
  • Must have prior experience in qualifying equipment for use in nuclear safety related applications per 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21 and ASME NQA-1.
    • Requires experience with qualification by both testing and by similarity analysis.
  • Familiarity with formal Engineering Change Management processes. Experience with Windchill is a plus.
  • Reactor facilities engineering design experience is preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; and lead a team of less experienced professional employees on semi-routine tasks.
