Engineer II

Position Summary:

The Engineer II is responsible for the development, design, and analysis of electrical power systems with a focus on substations, transmission, and distribution infrastructure. This role works as part of a multidisciplinary design team to produce high-quality engineering deliverables, including drawings, specifications, and studies. The Engineer II applies sound engineering principles, supports project execution, and contributes to the successful delivery of projects from concept through construction.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop electrical designs under the guidance and supervision of a Senior Engineer, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Provide technical direction and support to designers and drafters to ensure consistency and quality across all design deliverables.
  • Prepare and review engineering documents including bills of material (BOMs), equipment specifications, calculations, and design packages.
  • Specify and evaluate major electrical equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, relays, and associated substation components.
  • Ensure quality control of design documents and equipment selections to meet company standards, client expectations, and applicable codes.
  • Oversee the development of technical drawings including:
    • One-line diagrams
    • Protection and control schematics
    • Interconnection and wiring diagrams
    • Equipment layout and arrangement plans
    • Grounding and lightning protection plans
    • Conduit, cable tray, and routing plans
    • Detailed installation drawings
  • Perform and support electrical engineering studies, including:
    • Load flow and power flow analysis
    • Short-circuit and fault analysis
    • Protective device coordination
    • Motor starting and dynamic studies
    • Harmonic analysis
    • Ground grid design and analysis
    • Arc flash hazard analysis
  • Coordinate with project managers, construction teams, and field personnel to ensure designs are practical, constructible, and aligned with project schedules.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders to support project execution and resolve technical issues.
  • Review vendor submittals and shop drawings for compliance with project specifications.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide technical input as needed.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks and projects, ensuring deadlines and quality expectations are met.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of engineering standards and best practices.
  • Perform other job-related duties as requested by management.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
