Overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled IT Infrastructure Specialist to join our dynamic Technology department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in IT infrastructure and server management, with an understanding of both physical and virtual environments. This position requires communication skills, collaboration, a natural orientation to process analysis and optimization, and experience with data analysis and project management.

What you will do - Essential Responsibilities
  • Work with fellow associates to develop and build self-service capabilities, to enable our internal customers to move quickly and deliver on the needs of the business.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in design, product management, and systems architecture to develop experimental solutions and bring great ideas to life.
  • Influence direction and provide technical leadership internally and externally to the team, offering innovative ideas that contribute to building win-win solutions through continuous feedback and critique within an agile environment.
  • Consult with internal customers and continually evolve the platform and its operations using solid engineering and agile practices.
  • Stay on top of industry trends and best practices to continuously improve what we do and ensure our customer experience is the best it can be.

Purpose of the role

It takes a passion for technology to develop and iterate on innovative solutions to problems. You will partner with Engineers, Architects and Leaders in product and technology to influence the direction for the organization as we establish the patterns, guidance and design for building and deploying on-prem infrastructure to support our customer facing applications. You will be a technical mentor to other Engineers and serve as an expert in supporting multiple areas of the Business. You should have strong communications skills, a strong sense of ownership, a passion for customer service, and a deep technical understanding of how the cloud platform can contribute to the overall success of our application development.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related Technology field or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of work experience


Specific Qualifications and Requirements
  • Technical experience in infrastructure, build and deployment, including private and public cloud, networking, connectivity, storage, virtualization, and access control.
  • Server OS - Microsoft Windows Server 2016+, RHEL 7+
  • Directory Services - Windows Active Directory, DNS, DHCP
  • Mentoring internal and external team(s) in platform management and reusable patterns and helping to solve complex problems that affect the organization.
  • Experience handling project management responsibilities (prioritization, planning, scheduling, status reporting)
  • Strong attention to detail, problem investigation and diagnostic skills
  • Passion for eliminating repetitive manual processes using automation.


Additional experience working with or using the following is a plus:
  • 1+ years of scripting or coding experience with one or more languages (all moved from required)
  • Automation - Ansible Automation Platform, AWX, Terraform, GitHub
  • Virtualization - Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV)
  • Nutanix - Lifecycle Management, Prism Central
  • Telemetry & Monitoring - SolarWinds, DCIM Software, EcoStruxure
  • Backup - Veeam Backup & Protection
  • Microsoft legacy stack - Microsoft IIS, Microsoft MSMQ
  • CMDB - NetBox, Service Now
  • Azure IaaS knowledge


Work Location and Arrangement:

Plano: This role will be based out of the CarMax Dallas Tech Hub (Plano, TX) and associates will work onsite 2 days per week

Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be considered for this specific role.

The annual salary for this position is:
$92,200.00 - $138,300.00
May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.

Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:
  • To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company.
  • For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay.


Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
