Peoples Gas Light & Coke Co, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Engineer- Gas Storage in our Fisher, Illinois location.
Job SummaryManlove Field is a natural gas storage facility in Champaign County, Illinois, where natural gas is stored approximately 4,000 feet underground in sedimentary rock formations. The facility can store 36.5 Bcf of natural gas and also includes liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage. LNG is stored at -2606F in two insulated tanks, each with a capacity of approximately 12 million gallons, equivalent to 1 Bcf of natural gas when vaporized. The facility relies on complex on-site equipment and processes, including gas compression, dehydration, transportation, thermal swing adsorption, waste water management, liquefaction, and vaporization, to support natural gas storage, retrieval, and delivery to Chicago.
The Engineering team includes five engineers who serve as process owners and site technical staff responsible for equipment reliability, integrity assessment, operational planning, energy control procedure creation and complex engineering projects at Manlove Gas Storage. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the engineers plan, develop, coordinate, and execute projects that require engineering and project management expertise. They also support department work as needed, including engineering design, construction and material specifications, management of change, project budget monitoring, and contractor oversight.
Job ResponsibilitiesThe Engineer serves as process owner for assigned Manlove Storage Field systems and supports safe, reliable, compliant, and efficient operation of storage field assets.
- Assess assigned Manlove Storage Field systems through analysis, troubleshooting, inspections, testing, and operational reviews.
- Develop designs, scopes, specifications, procedures, and project plans for Capital, O&M, maintenance, construction, and operational improvement work.
- Provide project engineering and management support, including bid preparation, contractor coordination, procurement, construction support, issue resolution, inspections, and stakeholder communication.
- Support Operations by responding to engineering requests and assisting with emergency response.
- Oversee complex projects and operational excellence initiatives that improve reliability, safety, performance, compliance, and process effectiveness.
- Investigate incidents, troubleshoot systems and equipment, test materials, and support technicians and control system administrators with operational concerns.
- Maintain required reports, drawings, technical documentation, Elogs, SAP records, maintenance plans, budgets, forecasts, estimates, and project records.
- Support management of change, document control, LOTO, inspections, records retention, operator qualification, training, mentoring, and procedure development.
This position is part of the Engineering job family (Associate Engineer, Engineer, or Senior Engineer); level will be based on experience.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
- Must meet company standards for driving and maintain a valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering or Industrial Engineering
- 2+ years of internal combustion or RICE engines experience (1,000+ horsepower)
- 2+ years of industrial infrastructure equipment (compressors, dryers, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, generators)
- 2+ years of working with and understanding related codes (Title 49 CFR 192, PSC 135,API, ASTM, MSS, etc.)
- 2+ years of pipeline construction processes experience (welding, tapping, hydro test, purging, tie-ins, etc.)
- 2+ years of supporting field and well operations for underground natural gas storage assets.
- 2+ years of relevant experience in liquefied natural gas (LNG) processing, cryogenics.
- 2+ years of pipeline design, planning, and cost estimating

Pay Range Minimum: $68,436.68
Pay Range Maximum: $135,761.08
The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs. At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
