This opportunity resides with Uncrewed Systems (UxS), a business group within HII's Mission Technologies division. Uncrewed Systems comprises unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs), unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) and autonomy software.

HII Unmanned Systems is seeking an experienced professional to come join our electrical engineering group! We are looking for an individual to lead the development of advanced capabilities for integration into our autonomous systems. System and subsystem design space includes common platform engineering areas, including energy subsystems, navigation subsystems, propulsion subsystems, sensor subsystems, and control subsystems, as well as launch and recovery systems. As an electrical engineer you will be responsible for the participation in product life cycle analysis and the development and management of technical data packages on new and existing designs. Working in a cross functional design team, the candidate will be responsible for bringing electrical systems designs through first article release, test, integration, delivery to manufacturing, and manufacturing support and improvements.Responsibilities may include the following:
  • Support both new development, production, and sustaining efforts in electrical systems design and implementations.
    • These efforts will have strong electrical systems performance focus, but ultimately responsible for a multi-disciplinary product
  • Demonstrate proficiency in electrical solutions for underwater applications with physical packaging and power constraints, EMI/EMC requirements, modularity and extensibility considerations, and circuit and signal performance modeling.
  • Communicate designs and issues to each corresponding department.
  • Research, develop, and plan electromechanical products for autonomous applications.
  • Support both Sales and Marketing Departments with engineering special quotes.
  • Provide documentation for manufacturing support and design.
  • Estimate labor and cost of materials for designs and applications.
  • Drive configuration management philosophy in products
  • Build prototypes and tests fixtures for new design or to update existing designs and products.
  • Perform project management duties as assigned.
  • Travel to offsite locations as assigned.
  • Communicate and support the efforts for each department with electrical designs and implementations.
  • Other duties as assigned


What you will be doing..

Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, software systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

What we are looking for..

  • 2 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; or 0 years experience with Masters in related field.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government clearance #LI-MH1

  • Experience supporting fast paced production floor
  • Experience working in defense contracts
  • Extensive experience working in multi-disciplinary product development teams, including technical leadership of small projects
  • Extensive experience in circuit card assembly design process, including requirements reviews, prototyping, manufacturability reviews, supportability reviews, and production readiness reviews
  • Experience architecting platform electrical and power systems.
  • Experience in software/firmware development
  • Experience working with cybersecurity products and requirements
  • Familiar with marine systems that include hardware and software components developed and produced for DoD use
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and develops and maintains accurate documentation.


Physical Requirements

May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
