Join Enbridge's Pipeline Control Systems & Leak Detection (PCSLD) team and play a key role in supporting the systems that monitor, control, and protect one of North America's largest liquids pipeline networks!

In this highly impactful role, you'll work at the intersection of engineering, operations, and innovation, designing and advancing pipeline control systems, leak detection technologies, SCADA platforms, and data communications infrastructure that are essential to safe and reliable operations. You'll collaborate with Regional Operations, the Control Centre (CCO), and multi-functional engineering teams to solve complex challenges, deliver strategic projects, and drive continuous improvement across the system.

What you will do:

  • Design, implement, optimize, and maintain pipeline control systems, leak detection, SCADA, and data communication systems to support safe, reliable, and efficient pipeline operations, expansions, and system upgrades.
  • Lead or support the execution of capital projects, including development of cost estimates, capital budget inputs, execution strategies, and business case justifications, while collaborating with Regional Operations, the Control Centre (CCO), PCSLD teams, engineering, and project partners to ensure successful delivery and alignment with operational requirements.
  • Provide timely engineering and technical support to Regional Operations and the Control Centre, including troubleshooting, resolving operational issues, participating in root cause investigations, and providing 24/7 on-call support as necessary to maintain system reliability.
  • Contribute to the development, review, and continuous improvement of pipeline control systems, leak detection, SCADA, and automation standards, specifications, and procedures, ensuring alignment with corporate requirements and industry standard methodologies.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders—including Regional Operations, the Control Centre, PCSLD teams, engineering, and project teams—as well as vendors and service providers to deliver safe, compliant, and high-performing solutions.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety, integrity, and continuous improvement by identifying and implementing opportunities to enhance system reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Scope of the position includes support for Liquids Pipelines operations and associated regional projects within the Pipeline Control Systems and Leak Detection (PCSLD) function.
  • Provides technical expertise and support to internal collaborators, including Project Engineering, Business Development, Regional Operations, Control Centre (CCO), Pipeline Control, and Supply Chain.
  • Geographical scope includes Enbridge Liquids Pipeline facilities, primarily within the United States, with occasional support to Canadian operations.
  • Prioritizes and coordinates activities that may impact project cost, schedule, and execution, with potential implications to operational performance and company revenue.
  • Engineering decisions, technical recommendations, and system designs directly impact the safe and reliable operation of pipeline control systems, including the safety of personnel, the public, pipeline assets, and the environment.
  • Exercises sound technical judgment and independent decision-making within established standards and guidelines; advance complex or high-risk issues as appropriate.

Who you are:

You have:

  • 4+ years of relevant engineering experience along with a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution
  • A valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record that will be verified upon hire along with the ability to obtain and maintain a passport for cross border travel, including ravel to Canada as needed

You can:

  • Show working knowledge of PLC hardware, programming, and industrial communication systems used in pipeline or similar industrial operations
  • Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues, assess system wide impacts, and apply sound engineering judgment to support safe and reliable operations

You are:

  • An excellent written and verbal communicator with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal partners, vendors and service providers  
  • Able to manage competing priorities, adapt to changing demands, and deliver results in a dynamic operating environment

The following are considered assets:

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or actively working toward professional designation
  • Experience applying process control, pipeline control systems, and automation standards, specifications, and applicable industry codes.
  • Hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation control systems, including development, configuration, and maintenance within the Logix and FactoryTalk ecosystem:
    • Software: Studio 5000 (Logix Designer), FactoryTalk View (ME/SE), RSLinx (Classic/Enterprise), FactoryTalk AssetCentre, and related FactoryTalk applications for visualization, communications, configuration management, and historian integration
    • Hardware: ControlLogix (1756 series controllers and I/O) and CompactLogix platforms, including system architecture, networking, and I/O integration
    • HMI Systems: PanelView Plus and other Rockwell operator interface solutions, including development and implementation of operator graphics and alarm interfaces
    • Industrial Networking & Communications: EtherNet/IP (CIP), including network design and troubleshooting, as well as experience with Modbus TCP and Modbus serial protocols for integration with third-party devices and systems
    • Historian Systems: Experience with Rockwell-based historian architectures (including data collection at the controller level) and integration with enterprise historian systems, including tag configuration, data validation, and support for SCADA, pipeline control, and leak detection applications
  • Familiarity with additional PLC platforms (e.g., Schneider Electric) and industrial control system architectures
  • Knowledge of the oil and gas industry, with preference for experience in pipeline operations, pipeline control systems, or leak detection
  • Working knowledge of related technical domains, including instrumentation, power systems, pipeline hydraulics, SCADA systems, IT/OT networks, and OT cybersecurity

Working Conditions:

  • Work performed in typical office and field environment
  • Frequent travel to regional offices and field locations across the United States, with occasional travel to Canada (up to approximately 20% in peak periods)
  • Occasional disruption to off duty hours, including extended workdays and after hours support for operational issues as part of 24/7 on call responsibilities as necessary (typically 3-5 occurrences per month)  

Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:

Grasping, kneeling, light – moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.
