The Opportunity

WSP is currently seeking an Engineer, Bridges and Civil Structures who has the interest and drive to join our team in Burlington, ON.

In addition to the abundance of work in our local and regional environment, the position will provide the opportunity to work with our larger team provincially and nationally. Reporting to the Burlington Bridge Group Manager, this position will be responsible for assisting with the inspection, preliminary, and detail design of bridges and other civil structures for federal, provincial, municipal, and private clients. Our Bridge Team has a highly qualified staff experienced in bridge planning, inspection, evaluation, rehabilitation, new design and project administration, and collaborates with other teams based in Ontario, sharing work and knowledge. Our senior staff have published numerous technical papers on bridge design, rehabilitation and construction, and continue to be active on a range of technical and structural code committees. The firm is proud of its reputation for leadership in the engineering field and of its recognition by receiving several major awards for unique and challenging bridge designs.

Your Impact
  • Carry out inspections and preliminary and detail design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls and other civil structures on assignments of moderate size, scope, diversity and/or complexity. Clients include all levels of government and private sector including heavy and light rail.
  • Prepare engineering drawings
  • Prepare form of tenders, quantity take-offs and construction cost estimates
  • Check designs and drawings
  • Prepare specifications and contract documents
  • Review shop drawings
  • Carry out contract administration and construction supervision
  • Prepare reports and proposals
  • Undertake bridge inspections, assessments, and reports
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to support staff, contractors, and/or vendors
  • Demonstrates sound written, verbal, interpersonal, analytical and application skills


The skills that set you apart
  • University degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer registered in the province of Ontario with 1-5 years demonstrated experience in structural design and bridge engineering in Canada
  • Technical understanding, design abilities, and current on bridge technologies
  • Working knowledge of structural analysis software used in civil design
  • Working knowledge in the planning, preliminary and detail design, and construction of bridges of standard and complex geometry, and culverts. Knowledge of current Canadian design codes and standards is essential
  • Experience with inspection, assessment and rehabilitation of existing structures
  • Experienced in report writing
  • Effective Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work on several projects at a time with multiple design teams
  • A committed team player with a willingness to help others and collaborate with team members
  • A valid driver's license


Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $85 100 - $112 800
MB & ON: $77 700 - $107 000
NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $76 900 - $102 100
