DOTD is seeking a
Bridge and Structural DesignEngineer to support transportation projects and programs through
bridge and structural design, bridge preservation, load rating, plan development, and technical support for transportation infrastructure projects. . This position supports the development, delivery, maintenance, or improvement of transportation infrastructure by applying engineering principles, conducting technical analysis, coordinating projects, and conducting compliance-related reviews.
Positions are located in
East Baton Rouge Parish, and reports to the
Engineer 6.While in an official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Services laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Job Duties and Other InformationJob Duties:Depending on level and assignment, Engineer 3 -Engineer 5 may:
- Assists with bridge and structural design activities for transportation infrastructure projects.
- Reviews or prepares plans, calculations, specifications, estimates, and structural details.
- Performs or assists with bridge load ratings, structural evaluations, or bridge preservation activities.
- Provides technical support related to bridge rehabilitation, replacement, preservation, or new capacity projects.
- Coordinates with project managers, consultants, districts, construction staff, and other internal or external partners.
- Reviews bridge-related project documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.
- Supports development or maintenance of design guidance, standards, procedures, or technical documents.
- Assists with emergency response or technical reviews involving bridge or structural concerns.
Position Specific Details:Career Progression: This position is part of a Career Progression Group and may be filled as an Engineer 3, Engineer 4, or Engineer 5.
Compensation: The following reflects the beginning biweekly salary for each level. A Special Entrance Rate (SER) may apply to qualifying positions.
- Engineer 3 - SER at $2,671.20 biweekly
- Engineer 4 - SER at $2,952.00 biweekly
- Engineer 5 - SER at $3,158.40 biweekly
Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); Job Appointment (temporary appointment in a classified position for a limit of four years); or by detail to special duty.
