Full Job Description
Job Description

Due to continued growth, BAE Systems has an opening for a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Hudson, NH. This specific opening is within our Space Systems product line. BAE Systems Space Systems product line has a long heritage of premier Space Electronics providing payloads, boxes, and single board computers to our customers dating back to the 90s. Our product line has supported Radiation Hardened processors for both satellites as well as extraterrestrial missions including all of the Mars Rovers. This specific role would be within our Secure Communications product area within Space Systems out of our Hudson, NH facility.

The position will be expected to perform all aspects of mechanical design, under mentorship and guidance from an experienced mechanical team, spanning from taking a requirements document and Systems block/architecture diagram and designing a solution. Our primary CAD tool is Creo. Our products primarily range from computer test racks, circuit card assemblies, chassis to hold our circuit card assemblies, environmental fixtures, and optical assemblies. The fidelity of the systems varies from benchtop or prototyping equipment up to the flight equipment used in the satellites. Within an optical assembly, there are numerous mechanical components ranging from brackets, mounts, rotating fixtures, optical lenses, gimbals, etc.
There are several large programs within our Secure Communications product area and this role would be assigned tasks across these programs as well as research and design to support future work for this customer set as well as for any new customers. Most of the programs are long-term programs and involve different stages of design and production support. This role will work with a larger team across Engineering and Operations including roles such as Mechanical Analysts, Systems Engineers, Software Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Test Engineers, Program Engineering Managers, Manufacturing Engineers, and New Product Introduction Engineers. Due to the customer base and missions, the role requires eligibility to obtain a Secret Clearance. Prior Space experience is desired, but not a requirement. This role is intended to be for a Junior to Mid-Level engineer and will support the career growth of the selected candidate. The knowledge base of the product line will come with experience in the role. This role will also work closely with our Mechanical Analysts providing them the inputs they need to perform thermal analysis, structural analysis, solder integrity, and vibe analysis. There will be flexibility to learn and perform some of the analysis itself within this role.
The board design tasks will entail working with board designers through component selection, PCB stackup, creating symbols and footprints, schematic capture, layout/placement, and routing. Mechanical design experience with PCBs is desired, but mentorship will be available. Our boards/systems include many different types of signals varying from digital, analog, and optical. The PCBs often contain FPGAs as well as optical components/connectors. Experience with VITA/SpaceVPX standards is recommended, but not required. Our designs often have numerous cards talking together within a box. So experience designing backplanes and with cabling is helpful, but not required.

Our flexible work environment (including a 9/80 schedule providing every other Friday off) provides a work life balance that affords you the opportunity to change the world while maintaining your personal life. This position is open to folks with various levels of experience and could be modified to entertain more or less experience as appropriate.
