Job Description

As a Principal Electrical Engineer at BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems (SMS), you will be at the forefront of defining and driving the technical direction of our space-based electronic systems. With a deep understanding of cutting-edge technologies and a proven track record of leadership, you will lead the development of next-generation systems that push the boundaries of performance, reliability, and innovation.

What You'll Do:
  • Technical Vision and Strategy: Drive the technical vision for space-based electronic systems, ensuring alignment with business objectives and customer needs. Develop and execute technical roadmaps that drive innovation and competitive advantage.
  • Complex System Design and Development: Lead the design and development of highly complex electronic systems, focusing on system-level and detailed circuit architectures. Ensure designs meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Advanced Technology Development: Spearhead the development of advanced technologies, including digital and analog design, high-speed communication interfaces, and signal processing architectures. Collaborate with internal and external partners to stay at the forefront of technological advancements.
  • Technical Leadership and Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers and teams, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence. Develop and implement best practices, technical standards, and processes that drive consistency and quality.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Lead cross-functional teams, which will include systems engineering, software development, and test engineering representatives. Ensure seamless integration of systems and drive technical decisions that meet customer requirements.
  • Customer Engagement and Communication: Interface with customers to understand their needs, provide technical updates, and demonstrate system capabilities. Develop and present technical briefings, proposals, and technical reports to senior leadership and customers.
  • Risk Management and Mitigation: Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks associated with complex system development. Develop and implement risk management plans that ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.


Required Skills and Education

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 6 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Experience with electronic circuit design, electronic systems, as well as software.
  • Hands on experience with lab power supplies, oscilloscopes, function generators, and logic analyzers is required.
  • Good communication skills, as well as excellent presentation skills.
