Overview

Are you looking for a highly rewarding opportunity that provides extensive career growth opportunities? Gilbane is seeking an Energy Marshal to lead and oversee energy isolation, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, and energization activities on large-scale mission critical and data center construction projects. This role serves as the site authority for energy management and ensures the safe execution of all electrical commissioning, startup, shutdown, and energization activities while protecting personnel, equipment, and project operations.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Lead and oversee project-wide Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), energy isolation, and energization activities to ensure safe execution of work.
  • Coordinate electrical and mechanical system shutdowns, de-energization, re-energization, and power transitions throughout construction and commissioning.
  • Serve as the site subject matter expert for electrical safety, ensuring compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, client requirements, and project-specific standards.
  • Review and manage energy isolation permits, risk assessments, and related documentation.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and field verifications to ensure adherence to energy control procedures and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with project teams, trade partners, commissioning agents, and client representatives to safely plan and execute energization and testing activities.
  • Lead safety briefings and communicate upcoming shutdowns, system impacts, and critical energy-related activities to affected stakeholders.
  • Investigate energy-related incidents, near misses, and safety observations, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of permits, audits, training, and energy management activities.
  • Provide training, guidance, and ongoing support to project personnel on LOTO, electrical safety, and energy isolation best practices.

 

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering, Safety Management, or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience managing energy isolation, electrical safety, commissioning, or related operations on large-scale construction, industrial, mission critical, utility, or data center projects.
  • Prior hyperscale data center construction experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with commissioning teams, electrical contractors, and critical power systems.
  • Certification or training in NFPA 70E, OSHA regulations, LOTO procedures, or electrical safety practices preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Extensive knowledge of electrical power distribution systems, energy isolation methodologies, and commissioning processes.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E requirements, and industry best practices related to hazardous energy control.
  • Ability to identify hazards, assess risk, and implement practical mitigation strategies.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent activities.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse project teams.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical one-line diagrams, switching procedures, and commissioning documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities within complex electrical environments.

 

Salary to be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience of the applicant, as well as the internal equity and alignment with the team.

For (Baltimore, Maryland) this ranges from $113,000-$144,000 plus benefits and retirement program.
