Position Title: Energy Engineer Senior Associate

Position Location: Remote - work virtually from anywhere in the United States

Job Summary

The Energy Engineer Senior Associate will have the opportunity to collaborate with all design staff and oversee energy audits, energy simulations, ECM activities and energy design solutions for mission critical and other commercial building design and construction projects. This person will work as part of the Engineering Team and interact closely with organizational leadership.

The Energy Engineer Senior Associate will receive general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments. May work independently consistently exercising discretion and independent judgment on individual work, or under immediate supervision. May serve as trade lead on routine projects of limited scope.

The Energy Engineer Senior Associate will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.

Essential Functions

Assist with Engineering Design Activities (50%)

  • Perform intermediate engineering work
  • Perform intermediate computation analysis and design tasks for complex projects, components and systems
  • Perform and analyze intermediate load calculations
  • Perform and analyze intermediate energy simulation
  • Utilize industry standard software applications to prepare drawings and visual aids
  • Review and / or prepare book or sheet specifications
  • Develop and / or review sequence of operations

Assist with Audit and Project Activities (40%)

  • Review drawings and submittals
  • Proposal development including project scope, schedule and budget; generally, seeks supervisory input before sending to client
  • Identify potential project scope changes and aid in development of strategies to minimize impact and control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlines
  • QAQC peer reviews for projects where he or she is not the lead design engineer
  • Coordinate installation of energy metering sensors (such as current transducers, temperature and humidity sensors) and analyze the resulting trends
  • Commissioning (Cx) and retro-commissioning (RCx) activities
  • Interact with vendors for energy-efficient HVAC equipment selection
  • Work with utility and state entities on energy efficiency initiatives

Reporting (10%)

  • Survey existing building conditions and prepare technical reports of findings
  • Collect data and other information for client reports
  • Prepare progress reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage personal hours using company tools

Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget

Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned

Position Requirements (Intermediate level for all the following)

  • Knowledge of Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs), energy modeling, LEED principles and energy audits
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE standards and guidelines
  • Knowledge of computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
  • Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), along with exceptional organizational skills for file management
  • Skilled in conducting energy analysis using industry tools such as DOE e-Quest, Trane Trace, Carrier HAP E-20, IESVE, Energy Plus, Energy Pro, etc.
  • Skilled in performing all levels of ASHRAE energy audits
  • Skilled in performing and analyzing load calculations and energy simulations
  • Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
  • Skilled in performing payback analysis such as Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR)
  • Ability to work successfully in a remote environment thru effective communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, proactiveness and resourcefulness in a distraction free workspace
  • Ability to follow company and site safety requirements
  • Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports and correspondence
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form (technical and non-technical information)
  • Ability to communicate effectively directly with clients and at times serve as primary point of client contact
  • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines
  • Organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Travel / Relocation Requirements

  • Up to 20%, this may include travel to any or all 50 US states
  • Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meeting for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc.
  • Potential relocation opportunities may exist per project needs

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering

The actual amount may differ based on non-discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and location.

94,000 - 110,000 USD per year (Remote)
