Description

Medical Center of the Rockies Emergency Department

From the critically injured trauma patient to the patient experiencing a stroke, cardiac emergency, behavioral health crisis, pediatric illness, or everyday medical emergency, our team is committed to providing high-quality, compassionate, trauma-informed care to every patient who walks through our doors.

A Regional Destination for Emergency and Trauma Care

As the region's highest-level trauma center, the MCR Emergency Department cares for some of the most critically ill and injured patients across a large geographic area. Our team works closely with trauma surgeons, emergency physicians, specialty services, critical care teams, EMS partners, law enforcement, and regional transport services to provide coordinated care when patients need it most.

Our emergency care capabilities are supported by 24/7 access to emergency and trauma expertise, specialty services, critical care transport, Lifeline helicopter support, and strong EMS partnerships.

For emergency nurses, this means an opportunity to develop and continually expand advanced clinical skills while caring for a remarkably diverse and high-acuity patient population.

Growing to Meet the Needs of Our Community

Medical Center of the Rockies continues to grow alongside the communities we serve. A recent major Emergency Department expansion added 22 beds, bringing the department to a total of 42 ED rooms and increasing our ability to care for the growing number of patients who rely on MCR for emergency services.

Our growth is more than adding space. It reflects our commitment to expanding access, improving patient care, and preparing for the future needs of our region.

A Commitment to Nursing Excellence

MCR is part of a Magnet-designated hospital and growing UCHealth campus, with a strong commitment to nursing excellence, quality, education, professional development, and patient outcomes.

We believe excellent emergency care starts with excellent people. Our department supports nurses at every stage of their careers and provides opportunities to build knowledge, confidence, and clinical expertise in a Level I Trauma Center environment.

Professional development opportunities include:
  • Trauma simulation and high-acuity clinical education
  • ESI refreshers and triage education
  • Pediatric and geriatric-focused education
  • Clinical ladder pathways
  • Classroom and skills-based learning
  • Opportunities to develop advanced emergency nursing expertise
  • Peer support resources tailored to first responders and emergency care professionals

A Culture of Teamwork and Resilience

Emergency nursing requires clinical expertise, adaptability, resilience, and a strong sense of teamwork. At MCR, we recognize that caring for our community begins with caring for one another.

Our Emergency Department is supported by strong partnerships across EMS, law enforcement, emergency medicine, trauma, specialty services, and the broader healthcare team. We are committed to creating a culture where people can learn from one another, continually improve, and support each other through the challenges and rewards of emergency care.

Most importantly, we believe how we care for patients matters just as much as the care we provide. Our commitment to compassionate, trauma-informed care means recognizing that every patient arrives with a unique story, and every interaction is an opportunity to make a difference.

Ready to Make an Impact?

If you are looking for an Emergency Department where you can grow your expertise, work alongside a dedicated and highly skilled team, and make a meaningful difference for patients across an entire region, Medical Center of the Rockies is the place to be.

Join the MCR Emergency Department and help us continue to advance emergency and trauma care while providing exceptional, compassionate care to every patient who walks through our doors.
