Job Summary

The Emergency Department Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides comprehensive, timely, and patient-centered emergency medical care to individuals presenting to the Emergency Department. Working within the scope of licensure, education, training, competency, clinical privileges, and applicable laws, the NP evaluates, diagnoses, and treats patients with acute illnesses and injuries. The NP collaborates with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to promote safe, efficient, and high-quality patient outcomes.

Essential Job Functions
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including medical histories and physical examinations, for patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
• Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute illnesses, injuries, and emergency medical conditions within the NP's scope of practice and clinical privileges.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient needs, clinical findings, and evidence-based practice.
• Order, perform, and interpret laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging, and other diagnostic procedures as authorized.
• Prescribe medications and treatments in accordance with state law, licensure, hospital policy, and applicable prescribing authority.
• Perform approved clinical procedures within the NP's education, training, competency, and clinical privileges.
• Recognize and initiate appropriate treatment for patients experiencing life-threatening conditions and participate in emergency resuscitation and stabilization.
• Consult with the Emergency Department Physician or other qualified providers regarding patients requiring additional evaluation, management, or a higher level of care.
• Determine appropriate patient disposition, including discharge, admission, observation, transfer, or referral, in accordance with clinical judgment, hospital policy, and applicable requirements.
• Assist with coordination of patient transfers and communicate pertinent clinical information to receiving facilities and providers.
• Provide patient and family education, discharge instructions, medication counseling, and appropriate follow-up recommendations.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, ancillary staff, patients, and families to ensure continuity and quality of care.
• Participate in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, chart review, continuing education, and professional development.
• Maintain current knowledge and competency in emergency medicine and rural healthcare practices.
• Comply with hospital policies, medical staff bylaws, applicable laws and regulations, and established standards of care.
• Participate in Emergency Department staffing and scheduled shifts as assigned.
• Perform other duties consistent with the position and NP's qualifications as assigned.

Requirements
• Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Idaho.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Current DEA certificate without restriction.
• Controlled Substance Certificate from the Borad of Pharmacy.
• Current ACLS certification is preferred.
• Must maintain medical staff privileges with Syringa Hospital as approved by the medical staff and board of trustees.
